Going in for Lap Band 3-23, any pointers?
just a hello,
I had my first appt with Dr. Rohrer yesterday. The soonest he can do my surgery is May 7th,,,,,, I am a little bumbed to have to wait 2 months.
You will find this is a great site for resources.
My sister had the lap band 2 weeks-ago so I am getting a play by play as to what to expect.
Are you going to have to spend the night? Did you buy the Nujury drink that they talked about.??
Hi,
Dr. Rohrer did my surgery on December 1st, 2006. Between the 2 week pre-op liquid diet, and the time since my surgery, I've lost 62lbs so far!
Dr. Rohrer is great and his nurse, Lisa, is a doll! They are all very comfortable to be around!
I had my surgery later in the day, 1:30 pm, and so they kept me over one night at the Benefis Hospital. Everyone there was really nice too!
They will get you up and moving pretty quickly after surgery, but I didn't think it was too bad. I didn't have any pain meds after surgery, but I have a higher pain threshold than some people...
Take loose fitting pants/clothing because they will "inflate" your stomach with gas when they do the surgery and that won't all come out before you leave...so you'll actually have a bigger tummy than you start with for a few days. Sometimes that gas will "move" up into your shoulders and cause some discomfort there. They told me the best thing to do to help with that was walking, walking, walking.
Also, chapstick is a good thing to have handy. My lips really dried out from the surgery and the chapstick was a blessing!
Take it easy for a few days, follow the information they give you, and stock up on clear and full liquids...and you'll do fine!
Remember, the first few weeks are all about healing more than anything. You will probably have some restriction from the surgery swelling, but as you heal, you will probably start to feel hungry again. Don't worry about it... when you can start getting fills, you will get restriction again!
Good luck to you and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!
