Topic: Caramel Sweet Potatoes

I borrowed this from a thread on the Al forum. Hope they don't mind..teehee! I will be replacing the sweet potato casserole (originally planned for Thanksgiving) with this recipe. It sounds wonderful and NO ONE needs all that sugar anyway!!! Looking forward to giving it a try!

4 to 6 large sweet potatoes (about 4 pounds)
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup DaVinci Sugar Free Caramel or English Toffee Syrup
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Whole or chopped pecans

Cook potatoes in lightly salted boiling water 25 to 35 minutes, until fork tender. Drain and when cool enough to handle, peel and mash the potatoes. Add DaVinci syrup, butter, and cinnamon; beat until fluffy and smooth. May be prepared in advance to this stage.
Spoon mixture into buttered 3-quart baking dish and arrange pecans on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Makes eight, ½ cup servings

Per Serving: 75 Cal; 2 g Protein; 2 g Tot Fat; 12 g Carb; 0 g Sugar

Debbi,
I am doing great with my band. I have had 2 fills and am now at 4.5cc in my band. If I skip a snack, I have to remind myself to "chew, chew, and chew some more." I am now at 40 lbs in 3 months so I am feeling very good!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I totally agree.. I remember back when I had my surgery - OH wasn't that well known (if you can imagine).. So I shared this website with my surgeon and everyone I knew.  When Sue got her website up and running (bariatriceating.com) I shared that info with everyone I knew.  Same with meltingmama, the WLS channel - on and on and on.  In the beginning there was so LITTLE information about this that you just had to basically take it on faith that everything would be okay.. Now there is so much information that anyone can make an informed decision about pre-op lifestyle changes, surgical procedures that are best for them, post op protein, etc etc etc...  AND since I think that SUPPORT is so important after surgery - everyone who has this done has NO excuses for not getting support (and the occasional kick in the arse -as you noted) to help keep them on track.  BTV is just one more arrow in the arsenal of keeping it real AND keeping it successful!

then fill it with some yummy stuff...

My son and his wife live in Hattiesburg....we will have to get together sometime...
How are you doing with your band...???

Please use my "steam" method   ... it also gives you lots of liquid for the gravy...just be very careful trying to get the turkey out of the foil...

good luck to you...hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving

Lynnda,
I think WLS is like church. It doesn't matter the building you get the work done at because our goals for success are all the same. And anything we can do to encourage each other or even chastise each other (when needed), will be beneficial to all of us in the long run.

I think it's amazing how people think WLS is a quick cure and when they don't follow the guidelines and ultimately fail, they don't waste anytime in sharing how their "surgery" didn't work for them. So I think the successful WLS people need to rally together and promote our success stories or even our "works in progress". And your show is an AWESOME way at doing that.

Thank YOU and thank Toni for reminding us that we are all FREAKS!

Tam,

I can tell you first hand it's more appetizing if you pull that bag of liver and gizzards out before you bake that bird!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tammy!  YOU are the bomb diggity girl!  Thanks for fowarding our info to your surgeon.. That is awesome!  Toni and I are definitely getting more comfortable in front of the camera and as the episodes go on we get dorkier and dorkier.. LOL.. Our producer is saying he is going to put out a bloopers episode for the holidays. UGH.. I am not sure I want to be THAT dorky!

If we aren't talking about EVERYTHING that is in your head - let us know what you want to see.. we will be happy to do an episode on anything WLS related..  and if we don't know the answers to some of your questions.. we will find em out!

Our Thanksgiving episode will post on Wednesday vs Friday.  A yummy dessert recipe is included and we wanted everyone to be able to make it for their Thanksgiving feast!

Ok I am going to have to "borrow" this cooking method. I never cook a turkey and am going to for the 1st time and I'm a little nervous. I'll be on the food network exploring options but yours sounds easy and yummy!

Thanks for sharing.
