Topic: Step One
I have just spoken with my Family Practice doctor who treats me for my DIabetes, High Blood Pressure and Neuropathy. We had a discussion about Lap Band and he was basically neutral and told me I was on my own. I am in Hattiesburg and I have Medicare. Any suggestions on where to start. I was actually here before and talked myself out of it but the list of my health problems is growing and I want my life back. I am also living with Fibromyalgia and all of it is a bit overwhelming. Weight loss would cure so many of my problems and I can't seem to do it on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Topic: RE: Hi from Ocean Springs
Hi, Im Julie from Ocean Springs. I had VSG done in July of 2010 with Dr Jenkins, he practices with Dr Avara. I would like to join if you guys start up a support group. I have attended several of the South MS Surgeons support groups but have always walked away feeling like I missed something. I really would have liked more group interaction. Don't get me wrong they are great people there. They provided me with some terrific info. I just wanted to be able to talk more with the other patients about their experiences. I lived on the VSG forum right after surgery. So please keep me posted if y'all get something going..........
Topic: Medicaid paying for gastric bypass?
I posted in another forum and got some answers but was told to come here and ask. I am on SSI, I just got approved for it on Aug. 23rd of this year. I also got approved for medicaid. I was wondering if Mississippi Medicaid pays for gastric bypass? I am new to all this SSI and Medicaid stuff so I have no idea how to even find a Dr that accepts medicaid other than calling and asking. I live in the Northwest part of MS not to far from Memphis, TN. If anyone knows of any good doctors that accept medicaid and if medicaid will pay for gastric bypass than please let me know. Thanks.

Topic: RE: O Band
You can have a band over bypass revision. I am not sure about all of the details surrounding it, but I have seen some post about it on the main board.

Topic: CALLING FOR CLOTHING EXCHANGE VOLUNTEERS in NOLA
Help!! We're very sad to report that our own Gwen (photo specialist) was coming to NOLA to coordinate the clothing exchange and due to unforseen cir****tances, can no longer attend. We wish her and hubby the best and will miss them.
On that note, we need volunteers to help sort the clothing exchange! If anyone will be there on Friday morning to help with receiving and sorting clothing, please let us know. If we don't get volunteers, we may have to cancel the exchange, as we have a full schedule that day.
Thank you!

Topic: You're Invited to NOLA!
Each day, those of us in the ObesityHelp.com Member Services Department receive phone calls from OH members and visitors who are seeking help in finding a bariatric or plastic surgeon. Sometimes, it is really easy to help the person on the other side of the phone. The person might have great insurance and knows exactly which surgery type they want, and everything falls into place. However, many times it isn't that easy. As a matter of fact, sometimes it is a heartbreaking struggle. There are so many people that call us in tears and who are desperate for help. They tell us about their mobility issues, their life-threatening co-morbidities, and sometimes they share about the losses they have endured in their life.
While all of the above is hard...sometimes, it gets even harder.
They might tell us they are under-insured or not insured at all. One of the reasons ObesityHelp.com decided to have an OH Event in New Orleans (NOLA) this year is because, since 2005, we have faced an increase in calls from that region. All of the calls have had a common theme: Medicaid and difficulties finding a surgeon to accept them as patients. The devastation of the Gulf Coast from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have had a direct impact on the lives of OH community members from this area. Even though it has been years since these storms occurred, the lives affected and the rebuilding efforts continue on.
We invite you to come to NOLA to join us for the FUN , as well as to embrace this community.
Our mutual solidarity is needed.
