So....my insurance coordinator finally believes me.

I've posted on here before about this----my insurance (BCBS of Mississippi) has told me a couple of times on different occasions that they don't do pre-approvals.  They only send a copy of the medical policies to my surgeon's office and as long as we "follow" that, they will cover the surgery.  Tried to tell the coordinator that, but she said they'd send a letter either approving or denying it.  Talked to her today......the insurance sent everything she send them back with a copy of the medical policy---she said she's going to look into it.

The surgery is included in my policy and I've done all of the pre-surgery requirements, but the office is leery about scheduling the surgery until insurance says "you've done what we require, we'll pay for it" sort of deal.  Which I'd be incredibly more comfortable with as well because I don't want to end up with a huge bill.

Anyway....anyone had similar issues or proceeded with the surgery without a letter of approval?  If the office offers to schedule the surgery despite not having this, I'm wondering if I even should or not.  This has been a long journey and I've tried not to get my hopes up, but I want it!! I need it!!

Topic: HOWDY, my Mississippi WLS Neighbors!!

Sailing through from Alabama to say HELLO to all of my WLS family!!  I'm 61 months post op; over 100% of my excess body weight was lost by 18 months out and it stays off (I've even tried to regain a few pounds LOL).   I started at 267 pounds and have weighed 116 for the past year or so.   I think that is where I'll stay.

I'm now considering plastics...purely cosmetic, though.  As for my PREop comorbidities, I had arthritis and highblood pressure.  Both of which I still have although my weight is has definitely been eliminated as a factor in aggravating either.   After WLS, I was put through MANY, MANY, MANY tests to deterimine why at around 130 pounds at that time, my blood pressure would not stay in check. Well, my chronic high blood pressure was found to be a congenital defect stemming from a steroid imbalance.   Once they started to treat "steriod imbalance", my blood pressure readily cooperated.  Point in saying all of that?  Before WLS, only the physician who said I needed WLS to eliminated my weight as a factor so specialist wouldn't have it as a diagnosis crutch had suggested my blood pressure was something far deeper than typical diagnosis.   Before her, every single physician I'd ever gone to said my blood pressures hovered around the 190/160 range because I was over weight.  NO ONE looked for any other cause.  NO ONE.  So in summary, whatever they're telling you "if you loose weight your ____ will go away", sometimes they are trying to get you out of their office without doing real work.

Anyways, that's me in a nutshell!!  ALL of my contact info is on my profile, please feel free to use it.   NEW PICTURES and any other details are kept at my own website www.Ge    Ma   Ve   ry.com (no spaces).  I decided that I would spend a few days floating around OH (FOR A CHANGE) greeting family on OH - & WLS family will always be my family.   There was a time when this site stayed open daily...I was always posting & responding and then I had WLS and within a year after that, I didn't need as much advice and I had no questions and...I just found other things to do once I was in a new body so over time my visits have come scarce.  I am a ready & willing resource, though for anyone who needs one.  Even so, I know once I close this browser, it will be months before I log back in so with that I ask that you please feel free to come by and say hi :)

prob not as early out as your are but there are many many people that are failed wls.  just did not/could not lose the weight.  The dad on the season that just ended had gastric bypass.  I think in the 90's not sure about that.  But he was cut the same as I was.  I had my gastric bypass in 04.

Exercise and keep a food journal.  Write EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth...good, bad and Ugly along with liquids that you intake for the day.  I try and calculate calories that way at the end of the day I know what my intake has been.  I keep that journal with me like it was my bible.  I write down what I eat right then and there as I am eating it.  I also prepare my meals for the next day so I dont have to think about anything.  I work and if I have my breakfast, lunch, waters, snacks with me I will not be tempted to run through a drive through or eat out of the snack machine.  Right now is the dream time of any WLS person.  You are in rapid weight loss.  ENJOY this NOW cause it will slow WAY down and your hunger WILL come back.  Head hunger and real hunger.  This will scare the you know what out of you.  But if you get this under control now and eat like your dr has said it will be a TON easier down the road.  NEVER NEVER NEVER skip breakfast.  It will RUIN your day.  If you are not currently eating breakfast then start.  Protein shack or a meal just make sure you take the time to get it in.  Take your vitamins and whatever other supplements your dr has put you on.  Exercise is one of the biggest keys.  Try and get at least 4 days a week in of 30 min cardio.  My trainer says do not miss more than 2 days inbetween exercise.  Last but  not least WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME I wish you the best of luck.  Always remember to look in the mirror and tell yourself how much you were worth this surgery.  Cause you are.  Congrats on the wonderful 1st months weight loss and keep up the good work!

Hello,

I am new to this board.  I was banded a month ago and I am having success.  My first weigh in was yesterday and I lost 17 pounds.  Any suggestions from our veterans on how to keep going on this track?
