Topic: RE: pain in shoulder after surgery-anyone else?
I can't talk specifically about shoulder pain after WLS surgery because I haven't had that yet.  I can tell you though that several years ago I had major emergency abdominal surgery and suffered that left shoulder pain.  My doctor said the same thing - it is trapped gas.  Mine lasted for about three days.  If it lasts much longer, I would suggest you contact your doctor and ask him about it.

Good luck!

Topic: pain in shoulder after surgery-anyone else?

I had a gastric bypass on tuesday.  once i woke up from surgery i had a horrible pain in my left shoulder. the nurse said it is just gas trapped after the surgery.  its been 5 days and the pain is still there and keeps me up at night.  did anyone else experience this?  Also, any tips on dealing with the nausea after eating all these vitamins through out the day?

Thanks!

Topic: Sent in my application today...
Well, I did it.  I sent in my application for approval through the State of Mississippi AHS insurance.  My doctor was very supportive when I asked him to complete his part of the application.  The only thing that might keep me from qualifying is the question about recent weight loss attempts.  The application states that you have to have had at least two physican supervised weight loss attempts in teh past two years, each lasting at least three months.  I don't have that.  What I do have is 10 months of a physician supervised weight loss program (I've lost 21 pounds!).  I'm hoping they will accept that in place of the two attempts.

Anyone else out there submitted their application?  Any new information on this program?

I'm nervous!  I don't know what I'll do if I'm denied!

Thanks for the info!  I am looking forward to attending the session.  My husband is coming as well.  Maybe my Mom.  We all want to understand fully what is going to happen during this process.

Topic: RE: Meridian PCP
Hi, I work in Meridian, but live in Butler, Al...cost of living is cheaper, like taxes for example.
I use Dr. Dan Henderson, he is familiar with WLS, and has treated several patients as far as I know. He is associated with Rush Hospital, but has his own office at the Immediate care clinic, on 14th street, Meridian.
I had my surgery Realize Band, done in Mobile, Al at the Infirmary Hospital.  As for support group in Meridian, there is none..I started going to Tuscaloosa Al for support group.  They meet the third thursday of each month at the DHC hospital off of MacFarland BLVD.  Seems like a nice group of people.  THere is also a support group somewhere in Jackson, and also one in Hattiesburg.  There used to be a Surgical Wt. loss support group in Meridian, but due to lack of interest and a place to meet, they disbannded from what I have been told.

Welcome to Meridian, hope you find the town cozy and pleasant, where are you coming from?
I have lived in the Meridian area since 1986, just two years ago moved to Butler, Al, just 35 miles from Meridian.  I am originally from Virginia.
Hope the information I gave will help you.  Farmgirl58

As long as the provider accepts BC/BS they will accept the out of state insurance because they have to bill the MISSISSIPPI BC/BS and they in turn channel it through to the proper BC/BS.  I have BC/BS of Maryland and live and work in MS.  Home office is in Maryland.

Topic: Tupelo, Ms support group
I wanted to share this with those of you who may be interested. North Mississippi Medical Center offers a  6 pm bariatric support group meeting on the 1st Thursday of each month at the Tupelo wellness center. The wellness center is located at 1030 S. Madison St..  I plan to attend this Thursday as I have been looking for a support group nearer to Columbus, Ms than Birmingham is. This will be my first visit but I did call to ask info about it and the topic is going to be plastic surgery, then an open forum and it is free to anyone, no matter where you had your surgery, or if you are only thinking about it. The lady I spoke with said that there is a schedule of topics for each meeting that can be picked up at the meetings. The phone number to the help line for NMMC is 1-800-THE-DESK or 1-800-843-3375.
I am really excited about finding this meeting, I  am so  at the point where I need  some support,   I feel like I should be doing way  better than I am. Maybe I'll see some of you there.
