Topic: Update on LeGina

DeAnn and I went to visit LeGina this evening at the 5:00 pm visiting hours. She is still on the ventilator and is hevily sedated. Her blood pressure was good but they couldn't remove the vent. She needs our prayers really badly. I was very impressed with her nurses and they did say her labs were much better this evening but she has a long way to go.

Topic: 1-Year Check Up Today - Good & Bad News
I went down to Ocean Springs to see Dr. Avara and he was very pleased with the amount (92.5 lb on their scales) of weight I've lost.  He said I really don't need to lose any more, even though I haven't met the goal of 105 lb loss that he set at time of surgery. I told him about the burning pain that I've been having just below my breastbone that radiates to my back.  It feels a lot like before I had my gallbladder surgery.  He insisted that I go down the street to the surgical center so that he could do a scope and see what was wrong.  I certainly didn't go to Ocean Springs with the expectation of doing this! It turns out I have an ulcer.  Have any of you had this problem develop?  Dr. Avara put me on 30 mg Prevacid and I have to go back to see him in 2 weeks.  That will be 3 out of town dr. visits 3 weeks in a row....Next Wednesday, Dr. Kanosky is removing some moles that he said are evolving or transitioning or something.   Not to unload on y'all, but this has been some day!  On top of everything, one of the nurses had a major meltdown in the room where I was being prepped to be sedated.  She felt like everyone was criticizing her and dumping on her, and she just couldn't take it any more.  She said she was giving her 2 week notice.  I really felt for her, but on the other hand I didn't want her to be the one to put the drip in because she was so upset and crying.  She hooked up my ekg and I tried my best to comfort her and let her know I understood that sometimes a person just can't take it any more.  Then one of the other nurses put my drip in.   When I woke up in recovery, I asked about her and was told that she went home.   Thanks for listening! Pam

I am assuming you had a vertical sleeve. That is what I have. If you haven't already please go to our forum and repost. You will get tons of replys. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/VSG/a,messageboard/board_i d,5463/ Are you taking anything for acid.  You should be on prevacid solutabs or something for stomach acid. That will stop the foamies. Also you should be on clear liquids for a week. I don't know who your doctor was but they should have told you this. Have you called your doctor. Do you have any fever. With the sleeve we very, very rarely have any problems. Your stomach will be swollen and you will only be able to take very small sips, but you need to sip, sip, sip all day. You need to try your best ti get in 64 oz of water a day. Ice chips helped me alot!

gas and pressure can make you feel that way, too--the basketball in your belly feeling.  and good lord, liquid vitamins are enough to make you feel like you're gonna die (or they did me when I tried them pre WLS).  but again, this board is not in place of medical advice from a physician.  Where did you plan to f/u  post-op anyway?  what type reaction did your surgeon tell you to expect?  sometimes gas just makes you feel yuck.  and post-op is a hard time no matter what type surgery you've had. if you really think you're dying, go to an ER.  if you can stand to wait for an appt somewhere, find a physician or surgeon who knows about WLS. i would also like to add that the things you mentioned eating--liquid vitamins, potato soup and even glucerna--those things are harsh on your system and hard for your body to digest on a good day--much less a week post-op.  have you tried jus****er?  or chicken broth?  something *clear* instead of thick?!  again, I know nothing of the gastric sleeve, but post roux-en-y, i cannot tolerate anything milky (like the glucerna) and it took me a long time to tolerate potato soup.  Try something more clear like broth or watered down apple juice...back up back up back up...go very very slowly with it.  add a cracker or two if you want substance. good luck...hope you're better soon...

Do you have fever ?  My first suggestion would be to go to a doctor to be sure you do not have an infection - I would say that is VERY important at this point. Also, not many of us in the MS board have had VS, have you tried the VS gastrectomy forum ?  They would have more info, especially as you need information ASAP - I really hope you can get this checked out, and  please come back and post how you are doing, or what you have found out or done.  DeAnna

I got my vs just last Tuesday and it still feels like a have a huge basketball in my belly. Instead of feeling good, I barely have enough energy to walk and talk. I've some teaspoons some liquid vitimins and part of a can of pured potato soup and a half can of Glercena that probably saved my life.I can 's seem to eat or drink ANYTHING that doesn't just come right up as the foamies. Has anyone encountered any of this before. What should I do. I got my sleeve in Mexico. Wasting away mind and body, Island girl

I have added a prayer request to the Vertical Sleeve board. We are a very, very active board and I am sure there will be tons of prayers added from our board. I will keep them updated too. They will want to know about LeGina. I will also be going to visit her today and I'll post any new news I find out. If anyone wants to see the post: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/VSG/a,messageboard/action, replies/board_id,5463/cat_id,5063/topic_id,3386624/ God bless!
