Hey Girl!  Great to see you posted, I have been wondering how you were doing!  Hope you had a great Christmas!  I have not heard from Queen Arlies in a while....  I just pray that she and Jim are doing fine, I worry about them so much! We actually just got back from Florida, took the kids to Disney for Christmas!  Boy, that sure was alot of walking, I lost 5 pounds this week - finally down to 176 lbs!  I needed that kick start since lately my weight had pretty much stabilized!  We left out on Dec. 21st and came back last night!  It was great but I sure missed my grandparents and my Daddy, it just didn't feel like Christmas being away from the rest of my family and not home to celebrate with them!  But the boys had a blast and I was so glad we were able to take them!  I told my hubby that I know I would never have survived Disney if I had not lost the weight... I certainly would not have been able to ride most of the rides if I still weighed 332lbs!  Poor Danny was having a hard time keeping up with me for a change... lol Hope we can all meet up and see each other soon!

Topic: Crockpot Country Chicken
Doesn't this sound yummy!!! This is a simple one-pot chicken and vegetable meal that takes minutes to prepare, and can be left cooking away for hours while you're at work or running all-day errands.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 pound small white potatoes, halved
  • 8 ounces baby carrots (half a 16-ounce bag)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 large ribs celery, sliced
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 1 1/4 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into pieces
  • 2 tsp dried mixed herbs
  • 1 14.5 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup fat-free, low-sodium chicken broth

PREPARATION:

Coat the inside of a 4-5 quart crockpot with nonstick cooking spray. Place vegetables in base of crockpot. Sprinkle with dried herbs. Add chicken pieces, then finish with canned tomatoes and broth. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, until vegetables are tender and chicken is cooked.

If you want to thicken the juices, make a cornstarch slurry of 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to 1/4 cup of broth or water and stir in half an hour before the end.

Topic: What's Cooking??
What's cooking for New Years Day? I read in a local paper one year that you are suppose to cook dry beans (not real sure why, can't remember), something green and leafy to represent $$$ in the new year, something sweet for love and hog jowl for some reason. anyone heard of anything else we are suppose to do...lol.

Here is part of my menu:

Drien Pinto Beans
Fried Cabbage or maybe turnip greens but probably the cabbage (my dh loves it)
hog jowl
Drunken Chicken
Mashed sweet potatoes
Strawberry Delite

Lordy lordy...stay away from our house later that evening.....! It could get noisy!!!

Topic: Turkey Meatball recipe wanted
I would really like to make some meatballs. I found a really good sounding soup recipe that calls for turkey meatballs ( I am thinking the ones they are talking about must be pre-made). If you have a good turkey meatball recipe, please share it with me!  After I try the soup, I will share the recipe if it is worth sharing....lol. Thanks in advance.

Topic: RE: When is it time for 1st fill
Hello Fellow Bandster!  Lets see I got my band on May 21st I didnt receive my first fill till Mid-July.  Its normal for your appetite to return because your stomach is healing properly and the swelling around your tummy is going away allowing the band to get its proper fit... I know those are not fancy medical terms but thats how I understood it.  What I do when I get the munchies I normally have a sugar free popcicle or sip on a nice cup of something whether it be soup, broth, water, juice, anything with sugar free to it.  I hope this information helps.  Congratulations on your weight loss I know it has to be an exciting time for you.  Best Wishes!
Ain't no stopping me now!  I'm on the move!  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, AMEN!

I am not sure if this is right, but I was told MS medicaid will not pay for it. Only Medicare currently.

Can anyone tell me when most surgeons do patients first fill. I am 3 weeks post op now, just advanced to full liquid diet which I will be on for 4 weeks (or until I am 7 wks post op).  It seems a lot of people get a fill within first 30 days, so I was just wondering what the norm was. I just feel so hungry all the time. Usually eat  about a cup at a time of pudding, yogurt, slim fast every 3 hours.  3 wks post op-wt loss 32 pounds

Topic: The day after

Well, it is the day after Christmas and things are trying to return to somewhat normal for me. Had to go back to work today....sure wasn't ready. My dh and son are still home and will be until next Wednesday for hubby and then Jan. 9th for my son. My eating got back to normal today. Thank goodness. Christmas meals were good but were too many and I wasn't exaclty a good girl all of the time. Today was protein oatmeal for breakfast,  1/2 6' sub and then the middle of the rest, a few baked chips for lunch, some popcorn for afternoon snack, cheese and a few nuts for a morning snack, and dinner was 2 baked b/s chicken strips, a little bit of salad and a few bites  (about 1/4 )of baked potato.  Hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas and a healthy eating day!

Kathy, There is a Dr. Michael King in Oxford that accepts Medicare/Medicaid. His number is 662-234-3303. Not sure how far that is from you. I believe the paper trail is much like that for insurance approval, proof of weight loss attempts, medical records proving you have been over weight for the past 3-5 years etc.  I don't know anything about himor his track record. You could give them a call and I am pretty sure they will be able to tell you what you need to have and how to get started.  Hope this helps a little.
