Topic: Hattiesburg Support Group
Not that anyone attends these anymore, but there is a support group meeting in Hattiesburg at Pine Grove tonight at 6:30 in the Assembly Hall.  We used to have anywhere from 20 to 30 in attendance, but now there may be 6 there each month now.  But I still post about it in case there might be someone looking for a group to attend.   I think what the problem with the group is that now we have so many who are 2 to 5 years out from surgery, and the group just doesn't meet their needs anymore.  It is like we need a long timers meeting so that we can discuss what happends further out and get help from one another.  Maybe I need to start a new group.  I will have to think about that one.  Probably alot to bite off and add to my to do list.   Melissa

Topic: OT: How to Dance in the Rain

How to Dance in the Rain It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?' He smiled as he patted my hand and said,

'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.' True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.'

Tammy Bates had her surgery March 24, 2008. She went in April 3 to have her staples removed and when they were removing them there was one that wasn't healing correct and she got an infection. She is still in the hospital today and Dr King is only allowing her to have ice chips. She is having her good days and bad days..She needs all the prayers you can give her..Please pray for her that she will get better soon and will get to go home soon.. Thanks Sonya

I miss you too!!!!  It has been very stressful as I said, but it will all work out - if not, can I come home????? Yes, the phone is still working, so call me, if I am not in interviews, I will answer.  I have started my Avon business here.  But since I am still unpacking stuff, it has been slow going. Adam called with a doctor and a group - the same one I was looking at in Baltimore so I think I will be at the group next Thursday and setting up an appointment with the doc.  Need to get blood work done, so looking for a PCP too. Call me - talk with you soon, Tracey

Topic: The Pastor's A$$ (donkey)
The Pastor's Ass  The pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won. The pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again, and it won again. The local paper read: PASTOR'S ASS OUT FRONT.     The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the pastor not to enter the donkey in another race. The next day, the local paper headline read:

BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR'S ASS. This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the pastor to get rid of the donkey. The pastor decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent. The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day:   NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN. The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for $10.

The next day the paper read: NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10. This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild. The next day the headlines read: NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.     The bishop was buried the next day. The moral of the story is . . . being concerned about public opinion can bring you much grief and misery . . even shorten your life. So be yourself and enjoy life. Stop worrying about everyone else's ass and you'll be a lot happier and live longer! Have a nice day!
