Topic: MS Blue Cross / Blue Shield?
I am not a state employee. About a year ago, I asked my insurance provider (MS Blue Cross / Blue Shield) to see if they would cover lap band surgery. At that time, they said that they would cover the gastric by-pass and its complications, but my insurance company still considered lap band an experimental procedure. Does anybody know if this has changed? Thanks, Tammy in Hattiesburg

Hey, girl!  This board is pretty slow most days.  Come on over to the WLS Grads board.  That board is for those of us one year out or more.   I miss everyone that used to  post on here. We were so bad.  We had some fun discussions on here.  LOL. Melissa

Check out the WLS Grads board.  There is always a group starting the 5 DPT over there.  That board is for those of us 1 year out or more.  That is where I hang out mostly because the support over there is great.  Good luck. Mel

I think I am gonna start this tomorrow.  Anyone want to do it with me.  I think it will be a great way to detox if you (like I) have been eating wrong and taking in too many bad carbs and sugars and stuff.  A girl on the pg forum just did it and lost 7 lbs and said she can truly truly tell a difference in how she feels and how different she is eating now.  Let me know if you wanna start tomorrow with me. Topic: RE: Finally moving forward with surgery. I alittle scared.
Hey Angie, I'm sorry to be so long replying.  It's been a really busy week.  I understand what you mean about giving up sweet tea.  My thing was diet Cokes -- I started every day with a DC and had 2 or 3 more throughout the day.  My real weakness was a fountain Coke, which I would have every now and then.  But my doctor said no carbonated beverages, so I started weening myself off them about 6 weeks before surgery.  Next month it will be 2 years since I have had a DC or reg. Coke.  Dr. Avara said that we could have one a day 6 months after surgery, but I read somewhere that carbonated beverages (even diet) hinder weight loss and those who have WLS maintain their loss better if they don't drink carbonated drinks.  For a long time I was drinking Crystal Lite, but for the last several months I've been drinking diet Lipton green tea.   If you can start cutting back on sugar now and then try to eliminate sugar the last 3-4 weeks before surgery, it will really help you to cope better after surgery.   If you would like to email me, send me a private message and I will send you my email address. Pam
