Topic: What's cooking???
It has been so darn hot the past few days that I have not been cooking much in the afternoons. My kitchen is on the west side of the house so it heats up real fast. I got up this morning and put the ingredients for Cheesy Chicken in one crock pot and speckled butter beans in another. By the time we return from work both should be ready and no hot kitchen!! I plan to slice some garden tomatoes, serve a few marinated cucumbers and call it supper. What's cooking in your kitchen today?

Topic: RE: Anxious about tomorrow's seminar
Hi Tammy,
I'm glad your seminar went well. Dr. Avara is a wonderful doctor...it was the best move I ever made when I decided to go to him for my surgery. His staff is great too.
I just read your blog and want to caution about trying to survive for too many days on water and diet drinks. You've got to get in some protein or you will be sick and run down by the time your surgery date rolls around.
Dr. Avara's preop diet allows milk, light yogurt, and cottage cheese, plus protein drinks. I'm almost two years out, and I still have a protein drink every day. I use EAS AdvantEdge Chocolate Fudge, which has 17 grams. Tried several others, some of which I ordered online, including powdered protein. But this one is available at WalMart or Krogers, and costs about $5 or $6 for four. I just couldn't stand the powdered protein. All of it takes some getting used to!
I don't mean to come off sounding preachy, it's just that I've "been there, done that."
Proud of you for making this commitment. Send me a pm if you have any questions or anything.

Thanks, Shel. It went GREAT!! Look at my blog for the most detailed info but basically I need to be on a liquid diet now, even though my surgery isn't for 2-3 wks. That's ok. Actually it is a blessing as it will force me to focus on something.
I just realized what your photo was. That is AWESOME!
Congrats on your amazing journey!

Topic: Looking for Protein Powder samples
I am starting my liquid diet for pre-op. I will have the Lap Band surgery in the next 14 - 21 days. I am loking for protein powders that don't taste like cardboard. What I am hoping is that somebody might have some samples of protein powders that they aren't using, or if somebody bought a container of protein powder and for whatever reason won't use the rest of it. I'll be happy to pay for shipping and handling in either situation. I want to be able to try various brands and then decide which brand I want to buy a larger container of.
I apologize if this is an inappropriate post, but I am trying to keep my expenses down.
Thanks,
Tammy

Topic: Desoto Support Group
Hey all, I want to start a Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) Support Group for DeSoto County, MS.
There are 3 of us who are preparing to meet soon. If there are kids involved we will have to meet at a fast food place which has a kids play area or any suggested area.
Thinking Saturdays or Sundays would be a good day as most people are off those days. Mid mornings might be good as kids are tired and cranky yet.
Just ideas and waiting to hear from anyone out there.
901-438-8244 My name is Nancy and call between 8 am-8 pm. I go to bead early. Leave message if I don't answer.
thanks
Nancy

Tammy, just curious how your seminar went. I can understand the "this might be my last meal" thing. I think I gained 5 pounds from the time I found out about my surgery date to my surgery date. My surgeon didn't require the weight loss that so many require these days. Of course that was six years ago. Let us know when your surgery date is.

Wanda, I haven't moved to MS yet but should be there in the next month or two. I just wanted to tell you that I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom sounds like she was a wonderful Godly woman who was a great example to all of her family as well as to anyone else whose life she touched.
You have done so well with your weight loss!! Congrats! This board is kind of slow but maybe it will pick up eventually. I try to check it everyday now that I know we are moving. We are moving to the Wiggins area.
Love,
Shel

A woman's heart should be so hidden in God, that a man has to seek Him in order to find her.
Hello everyone!
I am sorry it has been forever since I have been able to keep in touch with the site and this forum. My mom died June 5th afer a sudden onset of complications set off by degenerative disc disease/ spinal stenosis. She already had a diagnosis of congestive heart failure, hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Mom was a long term nurse with 50 years plus experience. She was 74 years old ... until October 2007 mom worked full time at the Veterans Nursing home; she ministered to so many in MY lifetime... to say goodbye has not been an easy task.
She left 9 children... 30 grandchildren... 14 great grands to remember so many precious memories. I praise God for giving her grace to be able to share with each one of us before she went home to be with Him.
She took sudden ill May 16th ... 20 days later she went home...
She was proud of my accomplishment with my weight and knew I was in good health before she left.
I will endeavor to stay in touch...from here on...
I have my 6th month followup appt with Dr. King on the 3lst ... I haven't been on track consistently since mom's illnes but haven't gained any weight either.
I presenlty weigh 199 lbs... (353 lbs on the date of surgery December 6, 2006). I trust I will have a smile on Dr. King's face when he walks in the examining room this month!!
Much in prayers....
Wanda

Topic: RE: Missed H'burt Support Group Mtg - what did I miss??
We would love to have you join us. We are in the process of trying to revamp everything. The group was once really active having get togethers and picnics and such. But, over time as the members got farther out from surgery they quit attending the meetings and we lost touch. The meetings just got to where they were so focused on new post ops that our needs as grads were not getting met. So, we are trying to reorganize and get everyone back in the group. We plan to schedule some topics concerning regain and such that farther outs experience. Once we have things lined out we will do a mail out to everyone letting them know of the changes and hopefully we can get the numbers back up. Just send me a PM when you get moved and settled in, and we can get in contact with one another and get you coming to the meetings. I look forward to meeting you.
Good luck with that move.
Melissa
Good luck with that move.

Melissa, We are in the process of trying to get moved over to the Wiggins (Stone County) area. The company my husband works for has opened an office in McHenry and Paul is going to be the manager. The problem is finding a house that we can afford. We looked at some land this week and I think we are going to see about a mobile home. Anyway, I would love to start coming to the meetings whenever we do get moved. Not sure when that will be though. I will be 6 years out in September. I have put back on about 30 pounds but just have not been motivated to get it back off. Maybe the meetings can help me get motivated once again. We have moved so much (this will be #10 in 20 years of marriage) that I haven't gotten a chance to get involved in a support group. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully we will get to meet at the support meetings.
