Hi Chris. Yes, everyone is welcomed at CMMC support groups. It starts at 5:30pm for post-ops and then at 7pm is the support group. The 5:30pm meeting is with a licensed psychologist for post-op issues and such. The 7pm meeting is for everyone; pre-op and post-op to answer questions and meet others in the same boat. The meeting is the second Tuesday of each month at the CMMC medical office.

I don't know about CMMC as I had my surgery (RNY) at River Oaks in Flowood.  I do know they have a support group there and I can't imaging anyone not being able to attend.  I am very new to this as I had my surgery Tuesday (9-7-10), but I do intend on making the first support group in a week or so.  Hope this helps.  PS  The crew at River Oaks are terrific and I am very sure will be more than happy to help.

Topic: Need support in Jackson area
I am trying to get back on track after gaining 15 pounds (discovered this about a week ago).  Thinking a support group might be a good thing.  I had my sleeve surgery in Baton Rouge - so I am wondering if I can come to CMMC even though I didn't have my surgery there.

Please post a reply - would love to hear from people in the same boat as me.

Topic: Support group meeting in Savannah,TN
Hi everyone,I am frustrated with not being able to attend monthly support group meetings. My surgery was in Nashville & that is a 2 1/2 hr.drive to get there.I am wondering if there are enough folks in this area, even people in Northeast Mississippi or northwest Alabama might be willing to join us.I we can gather enough for a meeting I will find a location.

Please fill free to send me a message or email..

Thank you,
Sharon

Topic: RE: Vena Cava Filter
Sonya,
The filter is not your neck, that was just the point of access used. Nor is it in your abdomen. The filter actually sits in the inferior vena cava just above the kidneys. They attempted to remove mine after my RNY but couldn't. I could actually feel them tugging on it at about the level of my bellybutton but against my spine. They can become clogged and can sometimes shift, an abdominal x-ray would confirm either.

I'm not a hot mess...just a beautiful disaster!

If I hadn't been where I was and done everything that I did when I was there...I wouldn't be where I am right now, which is a VERY good place. So, NO REGRETS!!!

Topic: RE: Vena Cava Filter
Hi! I knew they went through your neck with the filter but I didn't know it was moved to your abdomen..I have actually been going to the dr for over a month with abdomen pain and they couldn't find anything wrong..sent me to have a Upper GI just to find a hernia..sent me to a gynocologist to make sure it wasn't my ovaries well still a sonogram to come to rule that out...i have had a lot of pain on my left side of my belly button and the gynocologist said it was more abdominal pain.. I really appreciate you posting that.
I see you are using Dr.King too..He is a great surgeon...very strict but great...If i had to have anything else done that he could do i would definetly pick him..
Please keep in touch..I also have yahoo and facebook.

Good Luck!

They go in through your neck but the filter is actually moved to your abdomen by a catheter tube.  Having pain a couple years late doesn't sound right....I'd check with your doctor.
