Hi guys I am new to this board and I am interested to know if any of you recieved asistance form vocational rehab. I am disabled and I have Medicare as my primary insurance. I have been told that there a long waiting list for Medicare patients interested in weight loss surgery and I have also been told that some weight loss surgeons are not excepting Medicare patients. I am desperate for the surgery. It could literally mean life or death for me. I have a list health issues that I am deling with everyday that my primary physician feels could be lessened or completly resolved if I were at least a 100 lbs lighter. If there is anyone out there who can give me some advise concerning Voc. rehab, I would certainly be forever grateful to you. :help:

Get on the list for the medicare patients! It is my understanding that Voc Rehab is no longer funding WLS. UMC at Jackson and the group in Covington both take medicare, I believe. And the wait with the Covington group would prolly be less. Good luck and keep us posted! smoochies Arlies

Good Morning Lisa, You need to listen to the advice of our Queen. She is right! I have medicare as my primary and the Surgical Group in Covington took my medicare. Now the hold up is that a few months ago medicare decided that you had to use a hospital with certain requirements. Well, I think you will be surprised to find out that they can take care of you. I recommend the group without reserve. I had my surgery November 28, 2005 in Slidell at Southern Surgical Hospital. This hospital is new and is wonderful. I could go on and on but let me just give you the number to call to get things started for you. Call 985-234-3000. You need to go to their web site at WhyWeight.com and look at the seminars. They may be coming to a city near you soon. Good luck and I am so happy to send you to this wonderful group of doctors. Have a wonderful day. Smiles, Jan

Hi! I was going thru Vocational Rehab for my surgery and right before my consultation with the surgeon this past February, I found out that Vocational Rehab had discontinued this service, and would no longer be funding weight loss surgery. I later found out that CMMC (Dr Cleveland) was offering a discounted cash price for surgeries preformed by June 30th. My husband and I decided to do a second mortgage in order to pay for the surgery. It will be a struggle financially for my family and things will be extremely tight for a very long time, but I know that I have to do this, and after studying all the options, this is the only way I will be able to have the surgery! Best wishes to you! Marci
