Support Group Meeting
There is a support group meeting tomorrow, January 13th at CMMC. The 5:30pm meeting is strictly for post-op patients. The 7:00pm meeting is for anyone, pre-op or post-op. Not sure of the agenda but I know officers will be decided upon for the new year.
If you have any questions, you can send me a PM! :)

Karine beat me to the Punch:
It's a new year. One of your resolutions should be to attend as many support group meetings as possible. Studies show that patients that attend support group have better success at achieving and maintaining weight loss. Even if you do not think you are getting much out of support groups, the accountability is much greater.
Next meeting: Tuesday, January 13th 7:00pm.
If you are not on our email list (for reminders, upcoming events, etc), please send me your [email protected]

Hi Julie! You do not have to have your surgery at CMMC to come to the support groups. We have a couple of people in the group, I believe, are from AL and just moved here recently. As far as I know, the support group is not advertised on their website. It's more of a "word of mouth" from everyone at the Bariatric Center at CMMC.
The support group meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month. There is a meeting at 5:30pm for post-op patients. It is led by Dr. Jean Hawks who is a Psychologist that works closely with the center and does a lot of psych evaluations that are required by the center prior to surgery. And then there is a meeting at 7pm for pre-op and post-ops. This group mainly gets together to talk about problems, issues, and/or have questions about something. It can be really helpful for the new people that just had their surgery recently and its especially helpful for those people who are still in the process to getting their surgery scheduled. Sometimes we may just talk, but other times we may have speakers. For example, a couple months ago, we had a plastic surgeon come to talk to us about body contouring and other plastics that we may want done after losing weight. At last nights meeting, we just sat around talking and let the newbies and the ones thinking about surgery ask questions or discuss some problems they were having.
We also TRY to get together for various reasons, like Christmas parties, clothes swap (swapping of clothes that they can't wear anymore for clothes they can wear), and on occasion we have a get together at a restaurant or something just to have an excuse to get together and socialize and have fun.
At our February meeting, which should be the 10th, we will nominate new officers for the new year. Please come if you can. The support group is great!! The Bariatric Center highly recommends having a support group to help you through your journey... as I'm sure your center in LA does the same thing. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me or PM me. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have! :)

Hi Julie! Come to both... make your trip worthwhile. :) We meet in the Medical Offices building next door to the hospital. I'm not sure of the room number though. If you go through the sliding doors, take the hallway to your right. At the end of the hallway, there is a room to your right. That is where the 5:30pm meeting is. Then for the 7pm meeting, we go across the hall to the bigger room. We tend to have more people at the 7pm meeting then the 5:30pm one.
