Needing a friend and alittle encouragement

Well hello everyone. Let me start by saying that I am extremely pre-op.  See I am 22 and in college , and work a job that doesnt offer insurance. So until I graduate and can get a job that does offer insurance, I will continue to educate myself on WLS. But I am facing some problems. My friends and most my family are all average , or only slightly overweight. So they have little understanding to my extreme desire to have WLS and change my life.

I only hear negative feedback, which Im  hoping is only their fear for me having surgery. But when I try to make them understand my reasons for wanting this, they either say something like, oh you can do this without surgery, or surgery is a serious option just to become skinny. Yeah i know some of that is just plain rude. But anyway, I am mainly looking for someone who maybe can understand where I  am coming from, and offer some encouragement and advice. lol

I need some plus size friends! Or at least someone who has walked in my shoes, so to speak. Seriously, I need someone , to talk to about what its like pre-op. And help me keep the goal in focus. Getting WLS and becoming healthy. So if you think you sound like the person Im looking for PLEASE email me. My email is
[email protected] I'll be looking forward to some replies. Thanks everyone!

I think we all have/had those family members we had to convince for one reason or another. Mine was my husband. He had heard all of the horror stories of surgeries gone "bad" form years past. I took him to the siminar with me, let him listen to the doctor, ask questions, etc and he slowly began to change his mind. By the time my surgery date arrived, he was on board all the way. It jsut takes time. As for the rude remarks, I wish I could say it goes away after surgery but it doesn't. There are still people who have comments or feel they are my "food police" watching what is on my plate and how much of it I eat. I always put more on my plate than I eat. Partly habbit and partly issues with food. I never know what I am going to be able to eat. Not because of my puch, I have texture/taste issues. Things tend to taste really bland to me most of the time. Anyway, I let my husband and my mom know first. My mom was on board from the beginnig, nervous but all for it. It took a little longer for hubby. Best of luck!

Hi Cheylynn, well I think you and I have came to the right place.  There seems to be a lot of friendly people here, who know exactly what your talking about.   Myself being one of those people of corse :)   I also have to wait but not sure how long.   And several family members including the hubby and friends who don't understand so they have tried to discourage me from having WLS.

Hello Cheylynn, I am a 57 yr old lady who is wanting to hve the lap band procedure done...and I am getting negative jabs from my mother who had gastric bypass done over 10yrs ago, and also one of my best friends is being negative about my decision to have this surgery. she too is very big lady, and says she can lose the weight herself, but so far has not succeeded.  Why these folks want to be so negative is beyond me.  I tell them I am doing this for ME, no one else, it is my turn to do soemthing to improve my health, want to be around 30 more years.  MY fella friend though is my best supporter, he is very encouraging, as his daughter has the gastric a few years ago, lost 180 lbs!  He knows how being over weight can cause so many problems, not just physical, but mental!  So, keep your goals high, do what you feel is right for you...research everything you can on the surgery, and God bless, you will succeed.
I know I will!  Farmgirl 58, Butler, Al
