Is there any in this area? I would drive to Tupelo or Starkville or within an hour of me. I hate driving to Birmingham just for a support group but I like to attend them.

There is a support group that meets in Tupelo. I think it meets the first Thursday evening of ech month, 6:30p at the Wellness Center (near the hospital). Don't hold me to that day, I am not certain about it. I have been thinking about attending but have not so far. You can find out more information by calling 662-377-SLIM. Hope this helps.

I am from Columbus too, and currently awaiting a surgery date from Dr. Clements at UAB.  Should be any day now.

Awesome!!! What type of surgery are you having? RNY or Lapband? It is kind of a pain to drive to Birmingham but Dr Clements is a great surgeon.  I am fortunate though that I have Tricare and they pay for all my travel expenses. Teresa said now that she knew that I couldn't have any excuse not to come back for Followups!!  I think Dr. Clements has done quite a few surgeries on people from the Columbus or Columbus AFB area. I know of several . Today is a good day for me, I bought a pair of jeans that are 2 sizes smaller than 6 weeks a go and it probably won't be long before they are too big. Have you visited the Alabama board? I really like it, very nice people on there and I don't see near the drama that is on the main board and  there doesn't seem to be many people in this are on the MS board. I have become acquainted with some people from Tuscaloosa area. Tuscaloosa or Tupelo is where I usually go do my shopping. I can't wait until I lose about 100+ so I can do some serious shopping. Hopefully by next spring break I will be ready to buy some awesome clothes, I will plan on going to Florida to shop in Destin at Silver Sands Outlet. Good Luck and keep in touch, it is always great to meet people especially from my area, I would love to see a support group here.

We've already met!  We met at a support group in Bham, I think it was Memorial Day, I had my grand daughter with me and you were having some ulcer problems, and we talked about a C-Pap.  Looks like you got that problem corrected and have gone through with your surgery...that's awesome.  I walk everyday at 5:30 or so at the soft track around the playground at CAFB, maybe we can walk together.  I

have visited the Alabama board, and was looking for patients of Dr. Clements....I have not figured out how to search the boards without going page by page!  I steered my husband to this site and others so that he can understand what's going on with me.  I am having RNY, and since we are retired military, I too have Tricare.

I had to quit smoking for 3 months prior to surgery and my three months runs this coming Friday.  Hopefully it won't be long before I have a date.  Dr. Clement's staff would not schedule my surgery until the three months ran.  So I'm just waiting and getting frustrated.  I like Dr. Clements a lot, believe him to be the best, and want him to do my surgery, however, as of Friday I'm ready and as of this minute, I have no date.  His staff says "I am in line," but it really is frustrating, considering I worked so hard to get to this point.

Tell me, did you have to lose any weight prior to surgery or do liquids for two weeks prior?  I have gained a few pounds since May and wonder what he's going to say about that.  I sure don't want to delay a surgery date any further if I can avoid it.

Hey I remember  you now!! I think you work in the building there at the corner of 45 and Bluecutt. Yes I am doing well, I really expected to be so tired but after about the first 2 weeks I haven't been tired like I thought.  The first couple of weeks I had a hard time getting in the 64 oz of liquid then it was like boom one day I started drinking the water and drinking and I am probably closer to 100 or more ounces a day.  I had a hard time with the chewable vitamins, they made me gag so I went to GNC  on base and  was able to find a liquid vitamin, it is easier to get down. I hate the chewable calcium, it tastes like candy and I have to take so many of them. I am in search of a liquid calcium but have not yet found it.  My first week I had some nauseau but it wasn't debilitating, it was just enough to be  annoying. I had  no problems with my food. I have not yet had any dumping and a couple of times I ate too fast or didn't chew something up good it just made me feel like I had a chest pain but it lasted only a short time and wasn't unbearable. I guess it is just a matter of learning. I did not have to lose any weight prior. I also ate regular food up until Tuesday the day before my surgery and it was clear liquids only and I had to drink the magnesium citrate stuff to clean me out good. I bought it at Walgreens in cherry, it was like drinking sal****er,  yuk!  I cannot drink chicken broth and can't even stand the smell of it now from the clear liquids diet the day before. I was given tomato soup and mashed potatoes for lunch on friday and scrambled eggs for breakfast that morning. I went home Friday afternoon around 3 pm or so. I may have already said this but I was 325 Lbs when I went in that Wed morning.   I was so happy yesterday, I went to Burkes in the mall and looked at jeans. I was trying to find some cheap ones since I didn't find any at the thrift store. Well I  didn't find any there. I went to Walmart and I bought a pair of denim capris in 2 sizes smaller, YEAH!!!! I bought the kind that has the tummy control panel in them and I really like them. I wore them to bible study at the chapel tonight.  This is the first week that I have felt like I lost any even though the  neighbor and my family and scales say I have. I think it took clothes getting to big to really sink in. I am hoping it won't be long for you, after I got my Tricare approval I got scheduled the next month. I wanted it to be sooner but the schedule was full.  I am planning to talk to some people on base maybe mental health and the HAWC about  if there is any interest in  a support group here. Deborah from Dr Clements office said she would come here and train the person and help any way she can to get it started. I thought about doing it myself, but I don't have any experience doing that sort of thing. I am going to look into attending the support group in Tupelo or Tuscaloosa, since I found them to be educational but don't want to drive to Birmingham  every month. Once the weather cools a little I may just join you on the track. I am not exercising like I should be but I am doing everything else I am supposed to do.  I will  attempt to PM you and give you my email so we can keep in touch. Good Luck!!!!Hope you get your date soon.
