State bill to prevent restaurants from selling food to large people???!?

House Bill 282

AN ACT TO PROHIBIT CERTAIN FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS FROM SERVING FOOD TO ANY PERSON WHO IS OBESE, BASED ON CRITERIA PRESCRIBED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT TO PREPARE WRITTEN MATERIALS THAT DESCRIBE AND EXPLAIN THE CRITERIA FOR DETERMINING WHETHER A PERSON IS OBESE AND TO PROVIDE THOSE MATERIALS TO THE FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS; TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT TO MONITOR THE FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think that bill even made it out of committee.  The 2008 legislative session is over; they're in special sessions now and more worried about funding Medicaid than anything else.  I'd be surprised if it were to come up again, because too many people protested and made fun of it. You're correct. It was dropped within 48 hours by the guys who wrote the stupid bill. They said they didn't mean for it to actually go through but wanted to make a point. All it did was make people laugh at Mississippi for another week. Our legislators want to waste their time, energy, and money on wasteful junk like this and Medicaid still goes unfunded.
