Hello everybody,

I hope you'll forgive my intrusion onto your state's message board, but I thought you should know about this.  Your Representative W.T. Mayhall, Jr., introduced a new bill that would make it illegal for some restaurants to serve food to anyone with a BMI over 30!   It is not a joke.  Rep. Mayhall doesn't think this bill would ever actually become a law, however he sounds sincere enough in his desire to pass this sort of legislation.  This is the link to an article about it:

Perhaps you can let Rep. Mayhall know how you feel about this?  Here's a link to his website, with his contact information. http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/members/house/mayhall.xml

Mississippi may be for lovers but fat people better get the heck out of Dodge! I'm surprised there are no comments, outrage, anything?  No reaction?

I just stopped by to make sure someone had posted this. http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/documents/2008/html/HB/0200 -0299/HB0282IN.htm

that was a rediculous thing for anyone to propose, as much bad stuff that we have going on that is all they have to worry about. it is good to inform people and teach them about their weight but that is a decision that a grown up has to make on their own. There are other things that our officials should be considering.I am for eating healthy by all means but its not like alcohol, you arent going to run over someone because you ate too much pie.

Actually I'm just laughing my "fat ass" off !!! Trying to imaging the restaurants with scales and tape measures - bahaha...... Don't worry, he'll get his !!  No one is outraged or rioting though, because we do know, NO ONE in their right mind would take this seriously.... DeAnna

They'd do a lot more good if they would pass legislation to allow Medicaid and the State Insurance to pay for WLS.  Can you tell I work for the State?  I had to pay for the surgery myself. This is the silliest bill I've seen in awhile.  I'd love to have Michael Moore come down here and interview the Legislators like he did when we freed the slaves i***** (does anybody remember that one?  I think we ratified the 14th amendment or something...)   Yeah, tape measures and scales at the entrance to every restaurant. I'd think it would be shot down as unconstitutional, anyway.   Fat people are included in the Americans with Disabilities act, if I'm not mistaken.  That's blatant discrimination. Marcia
