New to the board, have questions
VSG on 07/31/13
Hi Y'all. Im thinking about having this surgery done, and need some feed back about Drs, insurance ect. I was looking into Dr Pinson in Tupelo, Dr King in Oxford and Dr Freeman in Anniston AL. I have BCBS AL(PPO). Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am going to my Dr, Dr Sheperd in Tupelo to see if he would be willing to give me a referral and do my supervised diet.
Thanks!
Michelle
I too have bcbs/al. I used Dr. Andrew DeWitt in b'ham. I love hjm and would highly reccomend him to anyone. He and his staff are great. He has a great after care program. Visit the Al. board to learn more about him. Lots of us DeWitt babies hang there.

Did you have any trouble with BCBS? When I spoke to Dr Kings office, they said that they had trouble getting approval from them.
I had no trouble at all. I would suppose they have trouble because they are out of network. I went to seminar, did my 6 months of supervised diet w/my pcp. Dr. DeWitt's office sumitted my request electronicly and within 5 minutes [literay], I had my approval. I scheduled my surgery for 3 weeks later. I could have had it sooner but I wanted to schedule it for the week my husband was on vacation. Dr. DeWitt has a form he gives his bcbs pt's to be filled out by your pcp at each visit. This form is suppose to really help with approval, apparently it did because I had no trouble. I would suggest researching him and giving the insurance clerk a call. She is very helpful. The number is 205-502-4400.

They are actually in-network, she said a couple of years ago, BCBS was the best paying, and over the past 2 yrs, have become one of the worse. I called BCBS myself, and they told me as long as I met the criteria (which I do), and follow their guidelines to the letter, leaving no "grey" areas, then my chances were really good. So I am going Wed to my Endo to see if he will do my supervised 6 month diet that BC requires. I will also try and get the other Dr visits, such as the psych evaluation and see the nutrionist as well during the 6 months. I HOPE to be able to have my surgery (as long as insurance approves me) by the end of the year.
I had my psych eval at the local Timber Hills. I am pretty sure there is one in Corinth. If not, there is one in Iuka & Booneville. They only charge the co-pay on your insurance. Saved a lot of money that way. My doc actually suggested geting it don there to save. Normally it cost around $600.00. I had to get a psych eal, nutrional eval, physical therapy eval, a clear pap, stress test and clearance from a cardiologist. You are lucky that both Tupelo and Oxfordae in your network. Our bcbs/al does not pay as well in MS.Best wishes to you as you start the journey to a healthy you.

We do have a Timberhills here, I will go there. Did you have to go to the other Drs for your insurance or was that ordered from the Surgeon. I would like to do as much of it as possible during this six months dieting. I think I have a OB/GYN appt in March or May, cant remember which.
