looking for support groups in Clinton MS (NW Jackson area)

Hey Everyone... I am new to the MS forum....we have just moved to Clinton MS I am a lapband patient (over 2 1/2 yrs. post op) still loving my band....but looking for a support group... I completely believe in the local support groups and the relationships that we need so much... any assistance would be greatly appriecated.... thanks in advance...

Well, welcome to the MS Board - we are REALLLLLLY slow posting these days, but there is a wonderful support meeting at CMMC (central mississippi medical Center), which is very close to you, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month...The meeting is at 7:00 PM, and there is a meeting at 5:30 PM with a clinical psychologist for postop patients.  Hope to see you there!  Our own Kim Grimme is the new president of the support group, and has lots of plans and ideas for this year's meetings. DeAnna, thanks for the reply....I am excited to hear of a support group in the area...I have been involved it support groups since right after my surgery...and have always felt that the encouragement and support that I got from those meetings was a big help in the success that I have had so far... It has been a very hard thing for me to move away from my support group(s)....I was involved in a joint group in Savannah GA...and assisted the leader (an RnY patient) with the lapbanders...muy surgeon even arranged for me to take the support group leaders training that is given here at OH....I really loved it...being able to encourage those that are just starting out...I also was a Co-leader for our Lapband group that met in Brunswick GA (I was the Patient Advacate..We also had a Psych Doc...) I know that being involved with the leadership of the group really helped me to remain accountable... I look forward to meeting you...and will put this date on my calander...(I am assuming that it is acceptable for other Dr. Patients to attend???) Is there a particular place at the Hospital that you meet??? I actually drove by the hospital today (at least if there is only ONE CMMC hospital) so at least I will know where to go...thanks again for the reply

There are several of us (me included) that did not have surgery with CMMC WLS group, and are most certainly welcome!  Don't remember the name of where we meet, but it is the first drive in front of the hospital - believe it says "Medical officers" or something similar - but it is the first drive in front just go in the double doors and first hallway to the left - maybe give them a call and ask more specifically (I just show up when Kim tells me too!!  Ha)....There will be lots of new banders that will be so happy for the support from someone further out ! as CMMC just started doing bands and have lots of newbies.... Thanks DeAnna... I will certainly put it on my calander.... Helping Newbies is cetainly something that I Love... I am now aver 2 1/2 yrs...and am so grateful that my surgeon started doing this...(I am such a big Baby that I was really afraid of the RnY and really think that you guys that are brave enough are so much stronger than I was...) I love my surgeon and Miss them (the practice as a whole) I look forward to meeting you and so many others...

PS - they do have lots of "banders" at this meeting now......D

So--is the Jan meeting this Tuesday, Jan 8th?  I had RNY on 12-10 so I missed the December meeting. Thanks, Theresa
