My friend just had surgery..Need some advice
Hey everyone its Missie from Meridian. Listen I have a friend that just had surgery on MOnday with Dr. King in oxford. He didnt give her NO post-op diet to go by except clear liquids for a week. I was wondering if any of yall that used him could give me some information on what he told yall for yalls post op diet. I knwo that every surgeron is different, i know some require you to stay on pureed for a certain number of weeks. I would relaly appreciate it if yall could assist me here. I know that she said she has visited the board but not sure if she actually has posted..talk to yall soon..
hugs miss yall im going to start posting regulary now..
Melissa in Petal girl its ben forever sicne we have talked, Where is Arlies how is she doing? Talk to yall later..
That sucks that your friends wasn't given more instructions because you are right, every doctor is different. I am almost 4 years out now, and I can't remember all of the specifics from in the very beginning. I know it is liquids, pureeds, soft foods, then onto some regular foods. And I know it is a couple month process moving forward. Wish I could help more.
I am doing good. Just working and chasing kids. So, I stay pretty busy. I am still maintaining my weight loss so I am happy with that. I exercise still a good bit at least 5 days a week or so. And I am not sure how Arlies is doing. It has been forever since I have been in contact with her. I wonder about her often though and wonder how the king is doing. He wasn't doing well the last time she posted on here. Maybe someone else will know how she is doing and let us both know.
So, are you still liking your new job? I know the last time you posted you were really excited about it, and that is wonderful. I hope you are still enjoying it. Keep in touch. Talk to ya later. You need to post us a new picture, girl.
I had Dr. King in Oxford, and I find that hard to believe - He may have told her himself clear liquids for a week - but specifically - the hospital nutritionist AND his head nurse (assistant) should have visited her several times while in the hospital and gave her explicit instructions -
If she had RNY with him, he does only allow clear liquids for the first 2 weeks - about 1 ounce every hour of juice or broth/bullion, while sipping on water continuously. His reasoning is to treat the pouch as a "baby" pouch - allow it to heal completely - he will gradually increase to soft/pureed foods after about 2-4 weeks (can't remember the length of time), then add new foods every week or 2.
I have no idea what his specifications are for lap-band, though.
I would think she should call his office and speak to whomever is on call, OR, call the hospital and maybe speak to the nutritionist. When I was there, the nutritionist saw me daily. I would DEFINITELY certainly tell them that the nutritionist did not see her, and no one from his office told her what she should be eating (drinking) ! It was even on my discharge orders - "1 oz fluid every hour".
Tell her to hang in there, and sip sip sip on water - this being the MAIN thing to do, and to post with ANY questions (or have you do this)....

I had lap-r-n-y by Dr. King on May 14, 2007, in the first weeks before you ist check up he had me only to eat clear liquids. the nurse assisstant came to my room several times to explain diet and amount of water to drink we I went home. Now on each checkup dr. king adds more food to your diet. I'm just now on soft and some prueerd foods. He takes a conservative approch to adding new foods. I have lost 52 lbs. ant I follow his diet to the letter. I've not had any complications. he stess the exercise program also.
