I Saw a Girl Who had this Surgery 4 years ago
In just a few short months I will be four years out, and I live in fear of gaining it back because after the first two years it becomes hard work to keep it off and I exercise hard 5 days per week and eat really good and still have to watch every bite that goes into my mouth. If I relax for a second I can gain 5 or 6 pounds just like that. This surgery helps you get it off easily, but keeping it off is up to us. We become like normal people. We have to make good choices and exercise to stay healthy.
You will do fine. Just make sure to give yourself a range and accept nothing less. I have my 5 to 6 pound range and when it gets up then it is back to basics to bring it back down. Lots easier to lose 5 or 6 than it is to lose 100. It is so sad to see someone who has gained it all back. I just hate it for them. But I can definitely see and understand how it could happen. I know I have and will always have issues where food is concerned. That is why I still go to my therapy sessions every 8 weeks and go to support group. I have to keep myself accountable.

I think most of us have that fear. It can happen very easily. I'm 2 years out and am having to watch what I do. Luckily that is easier now. If I mess up, my body lets me know. I won't even pretend that I don't have bad days. (like today) I don't think anything that went into my mouth was a good choice. But tomorrow I will have better control. It's just a fact of life - we have issues with food. We use the "18 month" window to retrain ourselves. I have gained as much as 10 pounds, but because I have this tool, I was able to lose it very quickly. That would have never happened before the surgery. So, yes, it's a possibility - and easier than most people realize - but it's definately a fixable problem. I know someone who gained it all back, and then lost it all again!
Support group keeps me inline. I have to keep myself accountable to someone besides myself. LOL
It is easy to do if you do no****ch what you eat. That is why I am coming back to the board. I have strayed from eating correctly and it shows! I have gained 10 pounds since I had to go on steroids for an illness. I hope to lose at least 20 pounds by October. You can help keep me accountable.

I have sat and thought about this for a few days now - Everybody is different and not everybody will gain, but it is not always easy. I gained weight mostly because last year I had an ulcer that I did not know I had (bled slowly and did not notice I was losing blood), but I did not go to my doctor as I am very unpleased with him and he is so far away - I wish I had of gone to a doctor here, but I didn't....anyway, I felt so very tired and hungry all the time, had extreme fatigue, but just though it was lack of energy - But I have gained about 50 pounds, and now it is extremely hard to get a handle on even though I have started exercising again and finally have some energy and blood built back up (had to have 4 units of blood in the hospital).....It is also why I will probably not be at the dinner on Saturday - I HATE being the "fat" girl that had WLS and failed -
D - Very GRUMPY and fat feeling today ;-))
(have actually been exercising and have hit that very sore, very tired stage.....)
