Advice needed!
I have been experiencing some chest pain for going on 3 weeks now. I called Dr. Avara's office today and his nurse told me to take Nexium to see if it gets any better and if it doesn't in a few days she said to call her back. It feels like when you have been running and you get a pain in your side except it is right between my breast. It's not from eating because it happens when I move a certain way or breath really deep, not when I eat. I am eating and keeping food down ok.
Has anyone experienced this? I have a friend who said that it sounds like my gall blatter.............What do you think? Ijust don't want to wait if it's somthing I really need to check out. It hurts!
Help!

I had pains like that when my gall bladder went bad. I had my GB surgery on 1/15/04, and my gall bladder went south 11 months later and I had my gall bladder taken out 12/17/04. Pain went away after that. My pain got progressively worse as the gall bladder got worse and then it radiated into my back like a kidney infection would feel like. Hope you feel better soon! They can check your gall bladder out really easily by doing an ultrasound. That is how they figured out mine was bad. My bloodwork was okay but when they did the ultrasound they could see the inflammation and the stones.
Good luck!

I think that has to be what it is. I really think I need to go ahead and get checked out since it's been about 3 weeks now. Do you think I should go to my primary care physican or the surgeon who did the surgery? I am off Friday and would like to make an appointment then so I won't have to take off work......Dedicated Employee, Ha, Ha............. but my Surgeons nurse says that he is not in the clinic anymore this week!
Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Lorrie,
When I had my gallbladder attack, I was experiencing pretty much the same thing. At 4 a.m. I called my doctor's office - the doctor on call said to take a swig of Maalox. If I was still hurting after that then I needed to go to the emergency room. They ran the heart tests first and ruled that out. Then they ran scans that showed that the gall bladder was completely filled with gallstones...nothing was going in or coming out of it. I had the surgery soon after, and everything is ok now. I do know that if you lose a lot of weight you are at risk for having gallstones, which is what happened in my case.
In my opinion, you don't need to be messing with chest pain; I'd go on in and get it checked into. It could be gallstones, it could be your heart, it could be indigestion, but why risk it? Are you in the Jackson area? Baptist Hospital has a special chest pain unit where they run the tests on you and keep you overnight to make sure, that is separate from the regular emergency room. And they do their best to keep you from feeling embarassed about it.
Of course, if it had been a heart attack, you'd probably know by now. Good luck.

I called my GYN for a second opinion and she said to take the Nexium also. She said to call her if that doesn't work in a couple of weeks and then she will do an ultrasound on my gall bladde. So I guess I'll just do that for a couple of weeks. It's like the doctor's aren't concerned enough for me to come in for a visit. I am pretty sure that the Nexium won't help............but, I'm going to try it like my surgeon and GYN said to do. Thanks for the advice!
