We did it

Well, I have been exercising since my surgery over 3 years ago. And lately I have felt like I need to do something to make it more exciting and I have felt my family needs to move more. Well, John and I started exercising together. So, we decided to do the 5K run in Laurel yesterday as a family. Stephens is 15 and Catherine is 5. I told John that he and Stephens could go at their pace and see what they could do and that I would hang back with Catherine and we would do this as a team. Well, that five year old little angel made me so proud. She not only finished that 5K run but she placed. She got third place in the 12 and under age group. What an accomplishment for a 5 year old. She was so proud. She did over 3 miles in 45 minutes. I had hoped that by having surgery not only I would get my health back but I had hoped that I could teach my children the importance of exercise and healthy eating. I think maybe that has happened. My kids are making better food choices and they are moving. I hope that they carry that forever. Melissa

Awww. I am so proud of her, and of the rest of you. I wish I had your strength and motivation. I will start working out one day when I get my life straightened out! I hope to come up for a visit before I move back to GA but I am not sure if I will be able to or not, I will let you know though. Love ya! Rhonda

I was so proud of her, Rhonda. She did great. Her official time was just under 45 minutes. She is proud of her trophy. We've had to take it everywhere. I am glad I entered us all. I had thought about letting my mother keep her and let me see what I could do. I had been training and had gotten 3 miles in 28 to 30 minutes. But I decided we would do this as a family and I would be with Catherine. And I am so glad I did because she was so proud of herself. She needed that little boost. Stephens did well too. He finished it in 36 or 37 minutes I believe. John finished in 32 mintues. Not bad at all. Stephens got his contacts on Friday. He looks so different. I have seen him in glasses since he was a little tot. He looks so grown and handsome. You can see those pretty eyes of his now. He's gotten so tall that I have to look way up at him now. Christine saw him a couple weeks ago or so and couldn't believe how much he had grown. He took a growth spurt these last few months. Maybe I can see you before you leave. Just call me. Melissa

She did make the news. I have a friend of mine trying to get me a copy of the newspaper there in Laurel where the race was. Her name is listed among the winners. I gotta save that for her scrap book. Melissa
