Newbie in Hattiesburg

Hi. My name is Tammy. And I have an eating disorder. Now that I have faced the hardest part of admitting I have a problem, I am ready to do something about it. My BMI is over 50 and I am seriously considering the lap band procedure. I went to a seminar in Mobile, AL last night. It was very informational, but this doctor has only performed "40 or 50" of these procedures in the past 18 months. I am needing some guidance. (1) Is there a doctor in the Hattiesburg area that is experienced in the lap band procedure? (2) Also I need a support group for support and accountability. Who is the contact person for the local Hattiesburg support group? Any information passed along will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tammy Matlock

There isn't anyone in Hattiesburg that does the lapband. But there is a surgeon who does the Rny so there is a local support group. Anyone can go no matter who did your surgery or what type you had. I had my Lap Rny in Mobile, Al by Joseph Galloway at Providence Hospital over 3 years ago now. But I do not drive to Mobile for a support group. I just attend the one here. Lots of good people there. The meetings are held on the third Monday of every month over at Pine Grove Assembly Hall. You can call Pine Grove and ask to speak to Ann Blackwell in order to get more information. Melissa, I called Ann Blackwell at Pine Grove about next Monday's support group, but her voice mail said that she is out of the office for all of next week. So is next week's support group still going forward? If so, where and when do I need to attend? Thanks, Tammy

Linda, Where did you get your lap band done? I went to a seminar in Mobile, but am now going this next week to a seminar in Hattiesburg, hosted by a Dr. in Ocean Springs. I am looking for somebody local for the same reason of follow-ups, concerns, and refills. Thanks, Tammy
