Hello
Hi, everyone. This is my first time on this board. I thought it was interesting to see what other people from Mississippi had to say, we are very smart you know. ;)
I'm scheduled for lapband sugery for May 14th. I'm getting pretty nervous about the liquid diet. I'm scared I will feel like I'm starving to death. After all, if I could stay on a liquid diet, I could lose weight on my own. I guess I will do it because I know i don't have a choice. Do you all drink protein water? I was thinking about buying the special K protien water just because it's available at wal-mart. But I've never been a grea****er drinker. Any suggestions?
Stephanie
OH Stephanie,
I'm a terrible water drinker myself. I live on Splenda sweetened tea and coffee with a dash of milk. I've heard the protein water is pretty good. I really need to work on this since I know it's good forme. But it's just so dern hard.
But I did want to welcome you to the board and say HELLO!
Keep us posted on your surgery, and let us know if you need anything. I'm sure others will chime in on the water issue.
Good luck!

my doctor did a two week pre-op diet--first week full liquids and second week clear liquids only. I lost 11 pounds during that two weeks. Really thought it'd be more. What got me through it--knowing that the surgeon would know if I cheated. haha. I thought of it in the terms of a bowel prep--that he'd be able to tell if I weren't completely 'clean'. It was tough, but really helpful for the immediate post-op. I'd already gone through the sugar-withdrawal (though the first week of liquids i did a lot of milkshakes....the second week was only clear stuff like broth, etc.) My mind hunger was already gone by the time surgery came, so it was alot easier to deal with that initial post-op period.
I'm now a year and a few months out and have stablizied at minus 115 pounds. Quite thrilled. worth every bit of it.
good luck with your liquids. you can also convince yourself to do it because it's only for a limited time. you *can* do it for yourself. to follow the rules. to get ready for this. you CAN!
Hi, I was banded on March 22nd. I to thought I wouldn't be able to do this. I had the 2 week pre-op diet of clear liquids, lost 21 lbs on it. You can do it, keep the goal in site! I ate alot of sugar free snowcones!!! lol The difference in this and other "diets" is its permanent and your eating will return to normal. Yes it will be less but more normal. If you want my profile says alot about my journey!
Thank you all for your encouragment! I really need it, I don't want to chicken out. Regina, I am a nurse also, and I actually work in Corinth sometime (home health). How about that? I'm in FNP school, so I just work 2 days a week. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your profile. Dr. Byars took my gallbladder out 4 months ago, isn't he cute? I just love a doctor that can wear boots with his scrubs. ;)

Well, I'm kind of embarassed to say this, but I'm having surgery in Mexico. My insurance will not pay for this surgery, and I'm in graduate school. So, I am trying to save my money. But I have checked into this doc extensively and a friend of mine has had lapband surgery at his facility. My family is being extremely hard on me for going to Mexico, but I feel good about it. I have also found a doctor to do my fills here instead of going back for those. What about you? (less than 2 weeks away!)
Stephanie
Don't feel embarrassed. You have to do what you have to do. I'm a returning student too so I feel your pain. Plus i'm going the self-pay route... so we are definatly along the same lines. Can you write me privately on who is going to do your fills? I have a bit of delimea myself but thats another story. Keep me posted!
