Hi all, I am three months out now and have been having trouble swallowing for almost half that time. Food seems to get stuck in my 'craw', as they used to say, and it can be really uncomfortable. I am scheduled to have an EDG on Thursday and was wondering if anyone here had to have one done for the same reason. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you, Dianne

I have not had and EGD done for that reason, but I have had it done for others. They are painless because they give you amnesiac meds. It is over usually in a minute or two. It sounds like you might have a stricture, which they will dilate (stretch out) if you do. Good luck =)

Yeah, they are no big deal. Some people have a sore throat, but I've had 3 and haven't had a sore throat yet. Don't stress over it. ps... you can come and slap me if it's painful. HUGS K

Hi Dianne, I also had an EGD done at about 9 weeks post-op. I had a stricture which is overhealing of the scar where the esophagus is attached to the new pouch. The scar tissue forms and makes the opening too small. The EGD really wasn't too bad. I was given Versed and I was awake but don't remember too much. I had it done twice. It isn't uncommon to have to have several to achieve the correct size. I remember joking that I was too good a healer! The best part of the procedure was that the relief was immediate, I could keep food and water down, the worst part was a sore throat afterwards. I was happy to have it done. Good luck, Elesha

Thank you Ladies !!!! I feel better knowing that this is an easy thing to do. I'm off to Slidell this evening to stay overnight since I have to be at Southern Surgical Hospital at 6:30 in the morning. I really appreciate your input. It 'does' help to know of others who have been where you are. Thank you again. Dianne
