So I'm still pre-op, but going to go and get the ball rolling in April, I want to have surgery in July. Since I had my son in January 06 I have had not sex drive and have been very *****y toward my hubby. It has been suggested to me to start on Wellbutrin XL. I have 3 questions: 1. Has anything improved since starting Wellbutrin XL? 2. Were you taking Wellbutrin when you had your WLS and were you able to continue taking it? 3.Did it hinder you from being able to have WLS? Thanks for all the help. april*

I do take wellbutrin. To start out with, you would have to take the plain tabs. They are cheap cheap and that is the only one that is better for us. The xl and sr do not work. We can't get the slow release of meds any more since surg. The wellburin will help your sex drive most probably. If you have anxiety though you may cannot handle wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is a get up and go drug. I feel good drug. More energy. Therefore it can decrease other symptoms but make you feel gittery. I take 2 one hundreds but also add one 20 mg lexapro for the calmer effect.Since it is the reg tabs you have to take one in the am and then one at 2 or 3. That allows the drug to stay in the system more evenly. I have a make relative that they gave wellbutrin to so he would have a better experience for sex. He was instructed to take it 4 hours before. Taking these type drugs does not have anything to do with weightloss surg. A lot of us "chunkies" take meds such as these. I would definitely go ahead and get on it. If I have successfully confused you now just ask me another question and I will do my best to straighten all this out. Jane

Wellbutrin is a antidepressant. It will assist you with weight loss. It doesn't necessarly improve the sex drive, but as it helps the depression this in turn is going to help the sex drive. Many people experince decreased appetite with it hince the weight loss. Lexapro is a wonderful antidepressant with few side effects. As was mentioned the extended release will have little effect after wls. xl is an extended release.

I was on Wellbutrin a couple of years ago. While it did not actually increase my sex drive. It made me more receptive and made it more pleasurable once I got going. Kinda like, if you just get started, you enjoy yourself...LOL

Getting a little personal here, but Hey, we are all friends right? LOL.... I've been battling the low sex drive for YEARS! It really makes me mad that they instantly want to put the woman on anti-depressants, assuming that we are just depressed. It could be the case, but it has NEVER helped me. I know that everytime I was pregnant, my sex drive was very high. So I firmly believe mine was/is hormonal, but they won't do anything about it. My cousin had this problem and they said her testosterone (sp?) was very low. This causes low sex drive. There's not much out there apparently to help women with this problem. They gave her some kind of cream, but it wasn't something that gave her a sex drive. I don't know what the answer is, and I would definately give the WB a try and see how you do, but if it doesn't seem to work, don't give up! Keep going from there until you get some answers! Good luck hon, and if they find a magic cure for you, let me know about it! HUGS Kimberly

I've been on Prozac, Wellbutrin, Zoloft and Depakote. Prozac - interrupted my sleep pattern so badly I was psychotic. Wellbutrin - the rage I felt on this drug was 24/7 over nothing. Depakote - I was misdiagnosed as Bi-Polar and I gained a HUGE amount of weight. Zoloft - Took away my sex drive, doesn't manage my PMS very well but takes care of the depression and manages my OCD. The initial response to most SSRIs is weight loss but after months of being on them most folks experience weight gain. I felt the same way after my son was born. I attributed some if not all of it to exhaustion. The most tired I've ever been was the three years post partum. They never tell you about that at the OB/GYN but it does exist. Things look up after the little one is older and doesn't require so much 24/7 care.

Thanks ladies for all your help.. I'm so going to talk to my GYN in when I go in for my annual on the 27th. I wanted to ask here about it first, because I don't want to start taking something then I can't get my surgery. Thanks again.
