How tall are you? How much have you lost? What is a typical day for you food/exercise wise? Give a sample meal plan for a day for you. Melissa

thanks melissa, i am 5' 4 1/2", i have lost 75 lbs from my highest weight before wls. today i have eaten 2 eggs/ham/cheese omelet, no i don't get all my water in. i hate water in winter. i average around 2 miles walking most every day. some days i do have a pack of nabs if i get too hungry before lunch. i have tried to find out exactly what "good carbs" are, but all i hear is eat more good ones. i guess i don't plan meals very well, it is most likely my problem. thanks for responding. Brenda

Good carbs vs Bad Carbs Good carbs would be foods that are whole or unprocessed foods. Good carbs would include chicken, fish, beef, pork, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and cheeses, eggs. These are also called complex carbohydrates. You want to eat foods in as close to their natural state as you can. These foods take longer for the system to digest and they get used for energy more efficiently and keep insulin levels balanced so that we stay fuller longer and our metabolism functions better storing less fat for later energy use. Simple carbs would include anything that is processed or refrined like potato chips, cookies, bread, crackers, candy, sugary drinks, cakes, pies, cookies. These things are digested really quickly and cause our bodies to produce a lot of insulin at once and then crashes causing us to feel hungry or weak all over again. These foods spur cravings and can slow weight loss. If you need to eat breads and things make sure to get ones that are 100% whole wheat or whole grain or unrefined. Rather than nabs for a snack try some beef jerky or nuts or fruit. Change up your exercise a little. The body gets used to doing certain things over and over and our metabolism will quit responding to the exercise as well. I alternate between the stair climber, treadmill, elliptical, and running/walking, and weight training so that my body doesn't get too used to any one activity. By changing around what I do that keeps my metabolism where it will rev up during exercise and burn calories for me. If you don't get enough water in on a daily basis and your body tends to stay in a dehydrated state your body will hold onto weight and retain wha****er it does get. Kind of like when we don't get in enough calories the body thinks we are going to starve so it starts holding onto everything for dear life. Same principal applies as far as hydration goes. I can't think of anything else right off. Good luck. If you need anything else you can email me and I can give you my phone number and I will be glad to share what info I have with you. Melissa

Hey - I know it is hard to get past a plateau sometimes - Melissa's advice is the BEST ! I went back and read over what she said too - going back to complex carbs myself - natural foods - I find if I keep a large bottle of water with me (one with a sippy top) I will actually drink it. When I don't and have to just get a glass of water, I do not get in the water I need. So, try keeping a big ole bottle of water with you all the time, you'll find you will probably get used to it....Your body really does need it. Good luck to you - we're pulling for you ! DeAnna
