Have A Question, Not Sure If Anyone Can Help
I am on the waiting list for the Gastric Bypass..I have one more test to finish up and that is for the sleep disorder in March. I also have hyattel hernia and my surgeon that done my colon cancer surgery is wanting to go in Jan 29 and take care of that for me, but what really concerns me is if I will still be able to have the Gastric Bypass or not due to the hernia surgery and all..My surgeon only works 2 days a week that is why I thought I would post on here and see if anyone might be able to help me..
Thanks
Sonya
Hi Sonya!!
I had to pop in and say hi, I am from the Tupelo area, so when I saw Mantachie I had to say hi. As far as your question goes I have seen people on the main message board that had the surgery that had hernias but did not get hernia surgery till they were further out from Rny surgery. Probably depends on the Dr. and the severity of your hernia, sorry I could not be of more help. Keep us posted on your progress, and good luck to you!!
The doctor who did my gastric bypass fixed hiatal hernia at the time of surgery. It is a relatively simple procedure, and I had no separate pain from that. I personally would not want to be put to sleep twice if the same doctor could do both at the same time. I would speak to my gastric (bariatric) doctor about this, since this is all in the same region as the gastric bypass.

Well I talked to my surgeon that was going to do the hernia surgery and that also done my colon cancer surgery. He told me if I have the Lap Nissa (hernia surgery) that I could NOT have the gastric. So hopefully when and If i get to have the gastric Dr King can take care of both for me..I am tired of suffering with the heartburn but I want to wait and have the gastric if any of this makes any since..I go for my sleep disorder test in March and even though have had a major surgery this is still something scary..
Thanks for all your inputs,
Sonya
PS
Melanie who did your surgery? Was it done in Oxford?
A lap Nissan isn't a normal hernia surgery. It's called a hiatal hernia. It's for a hernia of the junction of your esophagus & stomach. That is why you couldn't have the gastric, because they are both on your stomach. Talk to your your gastric Dr.King, because the gastric will cut back the amount of acid in your stomach, therefore might help your heartburn. Hope this helped.
