Just Checking in!!!!!!
Hi Everybody from Cold, Grey Hong Kong!
We are in our winter phase now, temps around 50 to 60, but since we do not have heat in most buildings, it does feel very cold! Hope that you all had a very nice Christmas and New Year! We really wanted to come home for Christmas, but the tickets cost about $3000. for the two of us, so it was out of the question! Instead, since School finished on the 15th we left on the 16th to go to Bali, Indonesia. (cheap package deal) What a strangely beautiful place! There are these very Indian temples everywhere and statues of demons and gods..... A lot to see. We went to see a large active volcano and thru some of the villages which make handicrafts of all kinds. Each village makes a different product. If I could have managed to pack up some of the carved wooden doors with me, I would have brought them back! LOL! Incredible stuff! We stayed at a resort which was great, with beautiful pools, and a waterslide for kids. Most of the vacationers were aussies. Food was mostly western for us, we have indonesian food at home since my helper is indonesion and she cooks curry and things like that for us. I enjoyed the food a lot, although had to leave most of it on the plate, especially if my DH cannot finish the leftovers! LOL!
We returned on the 21st to Hong Kong and left for Shanghai on the 23. My DH's mother has Alzheimer's and has lived with us for a while in Shanghai. Now she is in the end stages of the disease and has moved to a nursing home. She can no longer walk and talk but seems to recognize her children although she cannot call them by name. The house seems so empty without her. We had a nice Christmas and stayed to New Year, visting the family and just going around. We even bought two new Bicycles, mine is a bright yellow! I feel so energetic now, I can walk for miles (like a camel) and just want to be busy doing things. Strange for me because before, I could sit for hours.
We are coming home for sure since we now have official notice of DH's retirement. I will be leaving my position at the school after 7 years. Over Christmas we finally moved to our new building. It is so nice but I have been hiking the stairs sometimes 5 or 6 floors at a go. But know what? I do not even breath hard anymore!!! I used to think that I was having a heart attack!
I am still sticking on my diet, veggies and meats only. Still havent learned not to overeat and pay dearly for it at times. I think that it is just in the programming in the head. Hope it will finally change....... I am at 150 and holding steady and 1 and a half years out from surgery. No illnesses or problems at all. So, life is good for me.
Hope to see you all when I come back in the summer and will be coming to the support meetings because I believe you need to have support in order to keep up with weight, changing a lifestyle takes a long long time, I believe! I am still just a toddler in that respect!!!!
Happy New Year and wishing everyone the most success in the new life path you have chosen!
