How many drainage tubes after surgery?
Did ya'll have a drainage tube in your nose after surgery? If so, when was it removed?
Was the respirator still down your throat after surgery? If so, when was it removed?
How many drainage tubes from the abdomen area did you have after surgery? When were they removed?
I am still waiting on insurance approval before my first consult with Dr.Lavin, so I am curious. Thanks guys. Hope everyone is doing well
I had an open procedure. I woke up with two drainage tubes in my abdomen and one in my nose. The one in my nose was removed once i passed the leak test the next morning. The ones in my abdomen were removed the day i came home. I think most people with the open procedure only have one in their abdomen and that is all i was told i would have but for some reason they had to put

I had the RNY laproscopic bypass and when I woke up all my tubes were already out! I didn't have to have a drainage tube.... Best of luck with your consult, make a list of all the questions you have and be sure to present them to your doctor. No question is too crazy. Remember that is what the doctor is there for, he can tell you exactly how he does his surgery and what to expect after surgery.

I had a laproscopic Rny and I did have an NG tube up my nose down my throat for 24 hours after my procedure was done. They left it in until they performed the leak test. Once it was known I passed they took it out. I also had a drainage tube in my side. They removed that the day I went home. The tube down the throat is used by many surgeons to make sure that if you have a leak it won't cause any problems until they do the test for leaks. If you had a leak that tube would save you from infection and other complications.

No drainage tubes for me, thank you! I had the RNY, but I do remember gagging in recovery and everybody saying, "Take deep breaths, Mrs. King." They were pulling out the respirator tube....and it was just a vague memory and I know what was going on now because I asked later!
Good luck!

I had four tubes in me, they were not removed until about a week later, and because I had complications, I had a feeding tube placed in me and it was left there just to be on the safe side. Probably around six weeks afterwards he removed it. (ouch!) I only used it once, but it was just there in case I had more problems. When you have it open, there are a lot more tubes. As for the respioratior they put me on a ventelator while I was in ICU, but I woke up with it down my throat and I could not breathe, in a panic, I tried to call the nurse, my room was pitch black dark, I couldn't see anything, and I don't recommend this, but because I was choking on it and the nurse wouldnt come I yanked it out myself, I said to myself I wasnt going to die this way!! I know I probably wouldn't have died, but I was scared when I couldnt breathe. I snapped at the nurse when finally she came in I said don't put that back down my throat! I was upset with them for not helping me when I couldnt breathe!

I had two drainage tubes in my side after surgery plus urine cathether. But I had a leak and had to go back to surgery and woke up with the nasel tube, and another down the throat (respirator) They took the nasel out and the throat in a day or so, but I kept the cavity drainage tube and the lower stomach drainage tube for about 4 weeks or so. The bag contents had to be emptied, (they showed me how) and you have to document and measure the contents. I was lucky that my daughter and a friend of hers are nurses, and didnt mind doing the bag contents. When they took the tubes out, it did not hurt at all. Just a big plunk like uncorking a bottle! I have been doing great ever since!
