Confessions of a Carb Addict!!
I need a slap on the hand or some strong words right now!!
I was sitting here watching the Ole Miss vs Auburn Football game and decided to have a few pretzels which lead to some popcorn and I ate way too much. Now I know better than to do this. So why did I do it??
Do y'all do this kind of thing??
Being sooo bad today.

slap - slap - slap - slap - slap
yep, I do this kind of thing, but it is getting a little better only if I am mindful of my protein and water intake, and exercise is helping to quiet that carb monster a little -
Okay to be bad once in a while - just be able to let it go and only have occasional "treat"...
DeAnna -
I haven't been having carb trouble but I have been eating way too much and barfing as a result. Or not chewing enough and barfing. Or trying something new and barfing. Are you seeing a pattern?
Chicken - ohmygod NOOOOO....I don't do chicken anymore
bread - yep, I tried it...yep, I started hurting...yep, I barfed...nope, I don't eat it now
squishy cheese - I adore Port Salute...maybe later on I can eat it. Now, no way.
Believe me, the list goes on. The good news is I finally found a protein drink I can tolerate. 35 grams o' protein in one can. My MIL told me about it. It is the one she used.
I will admit to having tried a pinch (literally) of my son's halloween candy. Candy corn - ewww. Banana Laffy Tafy - holy cow it's good! Chocolate - Not even gonna go there.
I figure I'm going to spend the rest of my life like this so I might as well get used to all kinds of things in my life. Am I going to taste things? Yes. Am I going to eat an entire bag of Banana flavored Laffy Taffy ever again? I hope not and I'll try my best but the outburst of occasional treats is a pretty good way to do things, I think.

Philosophical and
Meghan,
My biggest problem is I can eat anything without Sliming or PBing. (kind of like throwing up) I have never gotten sick on any food so far. I do not eat raw veggies or bread. I got a giant peanut butter cookie (size of a salad plate) and ate on it for 3 days. Most people would have barfed that up. I can eat fish, chicken, pork, beef, hotdogs *no bread*, veggies , cassaroles, crackers, popcorn, pretzels, pasta, potatoes, rice, chilli, you name it I could go on and on. I have also had the ocasional bite of coconut cake (yum) cookies and pie. I do try to stop at a bite. I want my weight loss to continue. I try to be realistic about food and make right choices. But as I mentioned before I do slip up by eating way way to much popcorn that did not even make me sick.
If I eat protien at my meal I eat a lot less food. I guess cause it fills you up quicker.
I want to come on the 11th and meet everyone. Sooooo Exciting!!

Okay, Ms. Ironclad stomach! I know sliming but what is PB? I'm not very familiar with lap band. All my research was for RNY. I'm kinda ignorant.
I think you are doing just fine. The first year for RNYs is the shake down and I suspect it is the same for you lap banders. During this time I think we are expected to find out what works for us, what pushes our buttons and what we have to stay far away from.
I pretty much live on dairy. Thank the gods cheese has been a mainstay in my world for most all of my life. Yogurt, cottage cheese and milk play a big part as well. Fake crab meat is good for me as well as potato. I can make a killer baked potato soup. Potato is about the only starch I do well with. Crackers mess me up for the most part. I can usually only do like 3 of them. Peanut butter? That's one of the three things that has made me dump. I've done it three times. WAAAAAY not fun. I also stay way from apricot and chicken.
I can't wait to actually meet you in the flesh! Hope you make it!

Ok, Ok, I know that I am gonna have to be the carb police!!! Carmel corn for you and cheetos for Dawn!!! LOL!!!! I am gonna get out my whip and get after you both, but first have to beat myself up!!!
Actually there is a low carb carmel corn out on the market, they had it a couple of times here at the grocery and I bought it, and dumped of course, but it was sugar free, never mind that I ate the whole bag.
Stop buying the sugar stuff, do not keep in in the house. I have my sugar free stuff in a drawer at home, also in my purse and at work. It keeps me on the wagon. I made the mistake of buying some little cakes at the grocery, chinese stuff does not have much sugar, but I ate a LOT of it. Bad Bad move, felt really tough and no energy.
I got an email from Splenda they have a whole new recipe book section on their website with a lot of good stuff.
I am expecting to see a very skinny Minnie when I come back home!!!
Love ya,
Cheryl
Cindi,
I am a sugar addict. It took me about 4 months to break the craving after my Gastric By Pass surgery. I am lucky in that the surgery gave me a unique thing, a very bad tummy ache when I eat anything with high sugar or carbs in it. Very bad feeling, so it has been useful after learning some very painful lessons. Even tho I am more than a year out from surgery.
I do eat some carbs, like sesame or saltine crackers, I limit bread to two pieces per day. No rice or potato especially if I have had bread. Cheese is a good thing, and I eat about 2 oz per day, although not every day. I eat a lot of fruit, I like to cut up a pear, an apple (peeled) a banana, two oranges, sprinkle them with two packets of Splenda and put in refridge for a few hours, and you have a great sweet treat that has fibre and good taste, but low calories. I also eat a great deal of sauted green leafy veggies, and no more than 3 oz of meat, very small portions.
Activity is a key to keeping and losing the weight. Walking more, more stairs, parking your car far out in the lot and walking in to the store. Just being more active!
Beware, carb addicts just start with one bite and then two and then the whole box. It is easy to do it. I have to sternly limit myself, I weight every morning and if the scale is up, then NO snacks for me, I have to drop back the food. Plus, I think that taking all the vitamins and calcium helps with cravings too.
Hang in there and throw out your junk foods!
