Suddenly Skinny!!!! The truth behind Gastric Bypass!!

I hope that Oprah will show a positive picture of Gastric By Pass, but considering what I have seen in the past, I believe that Oprah feels that Gastric is a cop out and the easy way out because she herself has issues with her weight. She is heavier now and she has all the tools of the rich to stay thin, personal shoppers, chefs, trainers and doctors. Yet, she has serious food addictions too. I do not believe that Oprah is unbiased enough to show the positive side of surgery and the thousands of people who are doing great after surgery. True, we are all addicts of one kind or another, but committment is the key to being successful with surgery, it is not a cake walk by any means!!!!! I am waiting to see what Oprah says.......... one of dem things that make you go HUMMMM????? haha The whole show actually spoke tons to me, since i myself havent delt with the issues that make me overeat in the first place! I honestly have no idea what my issues are but im sure theres something that makes me have a addictive personality! And yhea i have traded my obsession for food for and obsession, for exercise, friends, and shopping, and yhea i like to have a drink or two now where before surgery i never drank a drop! I dunno what to do about it , dont want to go back to eatting thats for sure! DAWN~~

I don't think this was really a slam on the surgery. It was more of, deal with the issues that got you to that point in the first place. It's well known that people with addiction issues will trade one addiction for another. And how many times was Oprah going to say.... Your stomach is the size of a WALNUT! Immediately post surgery... Maybe, but once the swelling started to go down, it wasn't quite THAT small...LOL

yeah, some people already have their minds made up whether or not they want to give WLS a chance. About 90% of the people I've told that I have has WLS give me the 'nasty, you took the easy way out' (i hate that!) look. If it were not for WLS, I wouldn't be the weight I am today and enjoying life the way I do today. I used to be a chocoholic, but now I'm a SHOPOLHOLIC!! It is not the easy way out, but it is a way out of obesity. It's not magic, you stil lhave to do your part, but it will help you. As far as your stomach being the size of a walnut, yeah, at first its really small and you can't eat much at all at first. I like to compare it to being a baby all over again. At first I was eating babyfood, but now I'm 10 months out and I cant eat near as much as before, but I can get a good 8 oz of food in, and I feel like I have had Thanksgiving Dinner. I can even eat sweets, but it has to be a very small amount. I eat pizza, chicken, beef, tacos, sandwitches, chips, any kinds of veggies and fruit --excep****ermelon, it makes me dump, but everyone is different, i can eat almost anything I want. You do change your eating habits, but its not like you have to eat baby food and baby portions the rest of your life. There are a lot of postive sides to WLS, but you have to be willing to accept the risk too. I almost died having my surgery, but I would do it again in a second, because it is worth the risk. okay enough of my sermon, I just get ill when I hear of people giving WLS a negative outlook. Hey Well now it is time for my 2 cents worth here. I don't hardley ever watch Oprah becasue she started talking smack about MS one time because she is from here well I wrote her an e-mail explaining how I felt she was downing us for no reason but I never heard a word at all. Oh well enough about that. I didn't get to see to much of the show becuase I was at school but from what I did see I was not to pleased. They made one comment about how you didn't have enough psych testing done before. This one woman was like we met with a shrink for an hour and thats it. Well I guess all doctors are different but I was there from 6:00 pm till 10:00 pm. So that is like 4 hours and believe me he tested everything that he could think of. Anyway there is a bad side to everything and I would be ok with them telling the bad side every once in awhile but How come there are never shows talking about all the good that WLS does???? Hmmmmmm maybe I need to become a talk show host then I can talk about whatever I want to talk about lol lol lol lol lol.......... Love you guys, Joyce

I watched most of the show yesterday, and I didn't think Oprah showed as much empathy for those who have had WLS as she did on a show in January 2006 called Incredible Makeovers. It was about a woman named Stacy Halprin who once weighed 550 and has lost over 300 lbs. Here's a link but you may have to cut 'n paste http://www.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200411/tows_past_20041108.jhtml. The video "A Day in the Life" is touching and worth watching. I couldn't find a quote from Oprah, but I recall her saying that after talking with Stacy, she now knows that WLS is definitely not taking the easy way out and that it's still hard work. I'm not defending the "O" because Lord knows she can tee me off sometimes...like her and Madonna today. Thank goodness I turned it over to the food channel before the Dixie Tricks, er Chicks, came on. Pam
