Well everybody, my surgery date is October 9. Never thought I would get one but it is getting close. Getting kinda nervous but excited too, they are going to do open incision. And going to take gallbladder out at the same time. I think the thing that really worries me is being put to sleep, never been put to sleep before. But I am going in with a positive attitude and just put it in the Lord's hands. Thinking about how my life is going to change and when I will be able to go to such places like Walmart and go in and just be able to pick clothes off the rack and buy them. No speciality shops. No running around trying to find a big size anymore. Has anyone had open incision , I would really like to hear from you and tell me your experiences, also would like to have any suggestions that anyone has to offer. Please everyone keep my in your prayers. God Bless all of you Kathy

Kathy, I had an open RNY... I actually had both! My surgery was almost finished when a problem occurred and I had to have open. While they were in there they went ahead and took my gal bladder too. I must say that the recovery from the actual incision was much like trying to recover from a C-section. You'll do fine! Keep us posted! By the way... it's ABSOLUTELY wonderful to go clothes shopping now! You're right, it feels so good to just walk in a pick something up no matter where you are! HUGS Kimberly

You are going to do great, I am sure! The incision will take time to heal, about 6 weeks or so, and your tummy will be grouchy for about 3 months before it settles down. Weight loss is gradual, you will stay on a weight for several weeks and then Whoom, down you go again. If I were you, invest in a good digital scale, I use mine every morning. If I go up a little bit, then I cut back a little with snacks, and the weight loss continues downward. Be patient, in a year you will be cruising Wal-Mart for those teeny sizes, you will need new EVERYTHING, like underwear, gowns and other stuff. You cannot imagine how your body will change. Becky and Jan live near you, I am overseas but will be back next summer for good, and we are always as near as the computer if you need help. I am so thrilled for you, finally you are on your way!!!
