Okay, has anyone drank a coke or some carbonated drink after surgery?? I want something different! What is the outcome? What happened after drinking it? Karine

My surgeon said it is a no no it can give you bad gas pains and it stretches your stomach. Ocean spray makes a great diet cranberry juice only 5 calories and no sugar made with splenda. Amy

I have and every time I drink one, I end up with very bad gas pains. I dont suggest it. I do know others that drink it and it does not bother them. I would suggest finding an alternative to it though if I were you. Beat those cravings!! Rhonda

Hey Karine, Dr. C fussed at me last week because I had been drinking Diet Mugg and Diet Pepsi. He told me I had to find something else to drink, but my problem is nothing else tastes right (everything has a metal taste to it). Water and crystal lite tastes awful to me now and there is not much else I can choke down. I have already had a bout with dehydration and was hospitalized with that 3 weeks after surgery. I am lucky to get 36-40oz of fluids down per day, so I was very happy to finally find that I could actually drink the diet drinks and get around 52oz down per day. The diet sodas have not bothered me, but I pour them and let them get flat before drinking them. Dr. C told me to start taking Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc Vitamin to help with my funny taste buds. Hopefully when these kick in I will be able to start drinking water and crystal light again with out it having the metal taste! I just found at Wal-Mart the diet V8 Splash - Berry Blend (It has 3g Carbohydrates and 2g sugars per serving). It is actually pretty good.... See if you can it, just be sure it says Diet! Good luck! Hey Marci, Try Decaff tea with splenda or sweetner of your choice. It saved my life in the beginning; that's the only thing I could hold down. nan manning

Thanks Nan, Decaf tea with splenda use to be all I drank before surgery, but right after I had surgery, I could not tolerate it. It tasted so bad ~ metallic tasting. That is what happened when I tried to drink water or crystal lite. I guess the acid in the diet sodas killed the metallic taste and that was why I could get more of these down. I started on the vitamins that my doctor recommended to help with the metal taste in my mouth, and they must be working! I made some decaf tea with spenda today and it actually tasted so good! I was so excited, now maybe I can lay off the diet sodas! lol Good to hear from you! Marci

Hey Steph! It is so great to hear from you! I think about you all the time ~ all those clothes you gave me before I had my surgery, I can finally get into and it feels so nice! My hubby said if it were not for you, he would have had to duck tape my old clothes where they would stay on me! lol How are things going for you lately? Are you going to try to go to Jane's house on Sept. 30th for the get-together? Love ya, Marci

I am not sure. I have to go away with work to Jacksonville , fla from the 17th to the 29th. So right now I am not sure I will be home yet. They love to change there minds about when they want to come home. I am glad that the clothes came in handy for you. I felt sure you would have used them before now. I love your hair that color also. It was different at first but I really like it. I have finally quit throwing up. whew. Seemed like all i did was throw up for several monthes,. I would try something new. not happening. I tryed ground beef for the first time this week. It was great. I use to love hamburgers. I had a taco and it wasn't all that. I might try a hamburger later. I have to work up my nerves for that. Dr. Cleveland said it would be at least a year before I could tolorate beef. But I figured why not try it. I have to be really carefull. I don't have any sugar dumping when I eat candy. I am able to eat a whole candy bar with no effects. So I have to be mindful of the fact that I have changed my life and go for the peanuts. more protien. Good to hear from you. Keep in touch. I will have my laptop while i am gone so I will be lurking. Steph

I am so glad you have stopped throwing up! I have the same issue with beef. I got sick on it one time and have been scared of it ever since! I just can't make myself try it again right now. Danny told me I had to start venturing into other foods, but it is so hard! It is easier to stick to what I know I can tolerate! I hope you get back in time to make it to Jane's, I am going to try my best to make it and I would love to see you there! Take care of yourself! Marci
