Does anyone know anything about this Dr? Does he do Lap-Band surgery? Which hospital does he use? I had called Dr Salameh's office, and it will be 2 months before I can even have an appt, then 3 - 4 months after that for surgery. I'm afraid my employer may change insurance at the end of the year, and the current insurance company DOES cover Lap-Band surgery. Any info would be appreciated.

I know of someone who used Dr. Carroll...and to my knowledge he does RNY and lap band. She has been very pleased with him. Curious, what ins do you have?

I'm forgot...I meant to also mention that I believe he uses River Oaks..but his office is in the St. Dominic's medical tower. I also have BCBS, but it has a written exclusion for any type of WLS...do you happen to know if there is any way around this? I would have went with Dr. Carroll myself, but his self-pay amount was quite high, compared to Dr. King in Oxford...for which I'm scheduled for lap band in late October, self pay...I've never tried to go thru my ins.

I don't know about any exclusions - I'm not an insurance expert by any means. Maybe the contracts are written differently for each company if requested?

I used Dr. Carroll. He does RNY, lap band and the DS. He doesn't advertise his services for weight loss and is better known as a general/trauma surgeon. His way is alot different than the group who uses CMMC and UMC. There aren't as many steps to get from office to OR. He offers you nutritional counseling (it's optional), but there's no list of tests to complete before you can find out about surgery. No psychiatric eval, etc. And even post-op, there isn't a list of supplements to take or anything involved like that. He's very straight-foward, and I like that. I had the RNY 2/28 (a revision from nonadjustable band which I had to have removed a few years ago). I've lost 96 pounds to date and have no problems. I was self-pay as my insurance didn't pay a penny. (that damn exclusion clause) i'd be happy to recommend Dr. Carroll to anyone. He's a great guy and a skilled surgeon. His office staff is also kind and helpful. mary

Oh, I forgot. He uses River Oaks Hospital for surgery. They offer a flat rate for surgery/hospital stay. They require payment in full up front. I took out a loan. Got a discount for paying 'cash' up front (if I'd used my credit card to pay up front, no discount).

Dr. Carroll is my lapband surgeon and I absolutely love him. His staff is the best around. Dr. Carroll is a very skilled surgeon and is very concerned about his patient's welfare. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I would highly recommend Dr. Carroll to anyone. He performs lapband surgery at River Oaks. His office is loacted in the towers at St. Dominics, Suite 1252. He sees patients on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons. His telephone number is 601-366-6606. You can tell them Vivian referred you. They know me well. Vivian

Vivian..this is a copy fr prev post....thanks... Hello...I see you are using Dr. Carroll for aftercare and are self pay. I too will be self pay due to a written exclusion for WLS...and will be using Dr. King in Oxford because he is significantly less expensive than Dr. Carroll's cash pay lap band price. I am thinking that after the first year, I'll probably want to switch to someone local for aftercare/fills (rather than a 3 hr drive)....and was thinking about using Dr. Carroll. I saw you went to Mexico for initial surgery...was Dr. Carroll open and pleasant to followup you post op, after you'd used a different surgeon initially? Also, just curious, with your slippage and self pay, about how much did your band slippage emergency surgery cost? I hope I'm not being too nosey, but concerned because I don't have a lot of extra money to pay for complications afterwards, should something happen and it worries me, and just wanting to think long-term "big-picture" worst case scenario etc. You can email me privately if you wish at [email protected]. Thanks!
