I never wanted to feel sick

But I've done some "no no" eating & so far...no dumping. Mainly it started as , I just want a taste & then nothing happened so I'd taste more often. Now I'm cheating at times. How could I do that after all the pain & $? I've got to get on track. Who knew not dumping could be a bad thing? I've lost 31 #s. Think I could do a lot better. The only thing that didn't agree with me was some SF chocolate. 1 is ok, but anything more than that 1 will cause major gas & within an hour or 2 upset tummy. So I haven't done that again. Also, I think I eat more than I should. I don't measure...I just eat till I start feeling full, but I think I need to measure & just stop eating. I've thought about going back to liquids....don't know i f I could if I tried though. Sorry for all the whining I do.

I have spoken with several people who during the first 5-6-7 months to a year maybe did not dump much, but by the end of year or into second year tend to dump more especially on sugary stuff....so, don't worry, you will dump sooner or later (LOL), probably...I am 3 years out and sometimes can eat sugary stuff and sometimes just lay there in agony afterwards....but during the first 6-9 months could eat about anything.... Since you are soon out, you should really TRY not to eat stuff that your tender young pouch does not need....I know first hand that that is hard....But, are you drinking plenty? Are you able to walk/exercise, cause those are the keys at this point especially. I am proud that you are able to get on here and ask about what you might be doing wrong...You will get a lot of support here about how to stay on track. I know it helps me to "whine" a little bit (or a lot) when I am messing up bad or just feeling like I'm failing. Support is what it is all about!!! DeAnna

PS - have you tried going to the forum for people who had surgery the same month as you? That can help reafirm that you are where you need to be, and see that others are having the same problems or things going on that you are. Your body is going through a lot this year, not just physically but mentally as well. Good luck and take care of yourself....D.

If you eat until you are full you have eaten too much. The message takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the brain to give you the signal you are full. By then, you have done too much. I always measured my food according to what the doctor said I should be able to hold at that point. Measured the food and put it up so it wasn't available for more nibbling. You are still really early out so don't push the envelope with how much can you eat. That pouch is still trying to heal in there. Call Janet and ask her how much to measure out for yourself and don't eat past that point. You will find 10 or 15 minutes after you eat the measured amount you will feel fully satisfied with that amount. Just give your brain time to get the message. These first few months are tough and definitely an adjustment period. So, hang in there. Things will get better. You are under a good bit of stress too right now. We are all on here to help and listen if you need to so don't worry about whining too much. That is what this is for. Good luck. Melissa

That is so true - I have been measuring my food out, eating it, and then wanting to get up and having some more even though I know I should be full....But, since I have been making myself wait, then start drinking water again after 30 min to 1 hour, I know I am full....It's hard though, cause after I eat, I really want something else (like those awful chocolate covered almonds my kids are selling - LOL)....D.

Even a year out, I get sick when I eat sugary things. I usually just portion out what I call a Kid's plate, what you would serve a 3 to 5 year old. It is enough, and sometimes too much. I also found out that if you order a thin crust pizza, you can have two slices comfortably. For my lunch, I take it to work, not over a cup of food in total, or eat one of those little Michelina's or Small Banquet dinners. I usually cannot finish all the food in either, so it is enough. I did find that I can have a very small cone of McDonald's ice cream once in a while, after I have eaten something, and I do not dump or feel sick, but if I eat it alone, then I get payback big time........ I compensate my sweet tooth with things made with Splenda. It helps a lot when I have the Munchies, and I need to walk walk walk if I have many snacks..... Still LOVE crackers tho.......

I think that we should never eat over about a cup at a time. The ending pouch usually ends up able to hold around 6 to 10 oz depending on the surgeon and how you do afterwards at helping minmize the stretching of the stoma. The acutal pouch doesn't stretch much. It is the stretching of the stoma that enables us to be able to eat more. The stoma can get stretched by overfilling the pouch on a regular basis. That is what I have read anyway. Melissa
