Russians and stitches....
Hey everybody!
I bin running with the Ruskies as of late! These kids are so much fun and I am learning MORE than they are....for those of you who don't know, our apartment complex had 16 kids (17 -22 years old) (2 have left the area so now there are 14)from all over what used to be the Soviet Union here on work-study thru McDonalds. There is no public transportation in Ranking county and it's too hot, so several of us folks here have befriended them and haul them around and about - they DO have a sponsor that is supposed to do that, but he has about 60 kids so he can't do everything. They are working at Spillway McDonald's and various other resturants in the area. They ALL miss their Moms & Dads, but are adjusting very well
Yesterday, Lasha (a guy from Soviet Georgia) cut his finger at work. He was told to wrap it up and get back to work (some folks at work have proven not to be very kind to them since they are foreigners). He had bled alot and was feeling shaky and insisted that he needed to go home. No one would take him so he rode his bike home with a large cut on his thumb. It was 102 degrees!!! When he got home, he sent one of the other guys to me and asked if I would take him to the Doc. I did. We went to UMC ER - and I must say it was one of the most POSTIVE experiences I have ever had at UMC - even tho they confiscated my scissors (I had my crochet basket with me) before we could see the Doc - I did get them back after we finished. Lasha got a tetnus shot and 6 stitches in his thumb. AND UMC wrote up a work-related-accident report since McD's didn't and said they would contact McD concerning payment and insurance!!!! EVERYONE was extremely kind and caring with Lasha - he was very upset since he was hurt, was missing work and was afraid of how much it would cost at UMC. So now Lasha has war-wounds to tell his grandchildren about!
These kids are really helping me with my slump that I get every year this time when everyone goes back to school and I don't have anyone to play with at home.....
I am going swimming!
