Choices made

I know I dont post often on here but I read it when I am home. As most of you know I am back working again after being disabled for 4 years. I thank WLS and Dr Cleveland for it every day that I am able to work again. What I want to post about is the bashing of surgeons and places on here as of late. This is not pointed at any one person just something I have noticed lately. I know that no Dr or hospital is perfect. I looked into many and talked to alot of folks before i chose Dr Cleveland as my surgeon. He to me was the most personal to me. I would never go on here and bad mouth any of the others and say they are sorry or no good. I feel that the dr and hospital choices are each and every persons own decision. I understand that some folks arent happy with one person that another is. In my own opinion I feel Dr C saved my life and was there daily for my wife while I was having some problems too. But I have talked to other surgeons and they didnt treat me near as well but I have never once and you can check all my post never said one negative thing about any dr or hospital. I guess I am done ranting and will step back off the soap box. Hope to see some of you soon. I am sorry I am not on here more but driving truck is a full time job and on my weekends I spend alot of my time with my family. Barry

I guess I feel maybe this is a little about me......BUT, I feel I had every right to be upset at CMMC. A place that is unprofessional enough to NOT return my calls or emails after 5 weeks is sad. They sent me a vague, impersonal letter 2 months ago that said they could not perform the surgery. Then no one EVER got back in touch with me to talk about the exact details.....even after I called and emailed many times. I find that disprespectful to me as a patient. I do respect your opinion and the fact that you have never bashed anyone. But I also think it is perfectly fine for me to warn others and tell my experiences with CMMC. Brandi

Barry, So GREAT to see you! I keep scouring the papers for our pictures, but haven't seen anymore since I caught Theresa's in the Sunday paper a few weeks ago. She looked GREAT! I agree with you on the surgeon issues. We have to remember there are two sides to every story, and the surgeons are not going to get on here and get into a dispute. When choosing a surgeon you should always check into them, their history, etc... taking into account that the more surgery's performed, the more chances that there is a complicated patient somewhere along the line. Someone who has performed 14 surgeries is not as likely to have a complicated patient as say, a surgeon who has performed several hundred. I encourage each person to look at all aspects of the treatment plan and follow up, and if they are not satisfied with the way they are treated by a surgeons staff, they should let the surgeon know. And if you aren't comfortable, by all means seek help elsewhere. This is such an important decision that none of us have taken lightly. I know in my personal experience that I have had excellent care with CMMC - the bariatric clinic. I've needed them 3 times for quick treatment of things and I've never felt less than the utmost care and respect has been given to me. Lord knows I did my fair share of very impatient waiting to get the surgery - and was as vocal as everyone else is on the board. It's a long process that doesn't always happen within our desired time frame, but God has an ultimate plan. I must remind myself of that in every aspect of my life... especially right now with jobs, etc... Life is good, and I'd do this all again, complications and all, if I had to. I've never been as happy with myself as I am now. It has changed so much more than my physical being. I am changed from the inside out. Thanks for the opportunity to be vocal Bear -- hope to see you soon, before I move! HUGS Kimberly ps... please, no one take this post personally, it is not directed at any one, just a response and personal opinion. I will help and support anyone who needs it and will help in any way that I can. No flames please.

You are so funny, girl. I love your disclaimer at the bottom of your post. I think you said your peace well. No flames here. It is a personal choice, and everyone has to make theirs and feel confident where they are. That is why so many of us had surgery at so many different places. Hopefully our ultimate results will be the same and that is a happier and healthier life. I know mine is. Thank you, Lord and Dr. Galloway. Love ya, Melissa P.S. If you need anything or just need a listening ear during all of this stress you are under with your move and job hunting just give me a holler. You know I am always here.

I have been reading the post daily, and where I have seen others sharing their experiences about dealing with a particular place or doctor I really haven't noticed any outright bashing going on. I think on here people are going to have good experiences and bad experiences to share. And I think they all have a right to be heard. Where I love my doctor and am thankful to him every day for giving me my life back, I am sure there is someone out there who doesn't like him or his staff and chose to go somewhere else or maybe their surgery didn't go well. That doesn't change my positive experience with him. It just means that doctors are human and don't always give people positive results. I know I had originally had a different surgeon but after researching him a little further and speaking with some of his patients I cancelled my appointment and went to the surgeon I ended up using. It is all about personal preference and doing research and hearing the good and the bad things about a doctor and then making your personal choice. When someone speaks of having a bad experience with my doctor I don't take it personal I just say I hate that for you as my experience was wonderful. And then I move on. No big deal. I am glad to hear you are back working and things are going so well. I have missed seeing you at the meetings and of course missed you posting on here. Try to not be a stranger. How are things going with your weight loss journey? Tell your wife and daughter hello. Good luck with your job. Melissa

MY BEAR!!!! So good to hear from my traveling man! I hope you are enjoying your work and travels. How's the Momma Bear and all the cubbies? Sadly, some patients do much better than others and some folks do get "lost" in the shuffle sometimes. Honestly, I think EVERY doc does the very best they can for their patients, but sometimes things just don't work out. You know I had a couple of failures when I started out - Dr. C didn't take my insurance and Dr. Blake left us - but I tend to look at these things as God directing me to the "perfect" Doc for me - ie Dr. Jenkins! For some reason, in God's plan, Dr. C and Dr. B were NOT supposed to do my surgery so He, in His great and glorious wisdom, made things hard for me until I got to Keesler - prolly cause I am so bull-headed and always want MY way RIGHT NOW!!! I love my Bear! smoochies Arlies
