Nervous after reading Marcy R's last post!!!
Thats okay, I had my own complications, but was not a patient of Dr. Clevelands. My problems weren't WLS related, it was just surgery in general. Lost too much blood and it sat in my bowels and made me nauseated to where no medicine could help. I just had to let nature run its course and get the blood to pass on through so that the nausea would go away. It was bad at the time, but I would go through it 100 times over to get to the point I am at right now.
Best wishes!

Pamela - this is not directed to you, but everyone who has replied as well as complained about Dr. Cleveland. Let me just say that no doctor is perfect, and complications can arise at anytime with any doctor. Choosing a surgeon is a personal preference. I started to use a different doctor and then found out what a jerk he was. I would never get on here and dog that particular doctor, because there might be someone *****ally likes him and knows that this is the doctor they choose to use.
I thank God everyday that Dr. Cleveland did my surgery, I would not have trusted anyone else. I knew that he would do everything within his power to make sure that I came out of surgery okay, if not then that was God's decision! There are absolutely no guarantees when you are dealing with major surgery and as I said no doctor is perfect. I am sure that all of the bariatric surgeons have had their own share of patients either die or come out with major complications. This is a risk we take when we decide to venture into WLS, or any major surgery for that matter. I just hate for everyone to complain about this one doctor and make him out as unprofessional. For me, this man saved my life and I owe him so much for all he has done for me, and it tears me up that everyone seems to be bashing him so.
Thanks for letting me share the other side to Dr. Cleveland!

Marci... I am not trying to dog Dr. Cleveland. I have no doubt that he is a wonderful surgeon. I just personally would not have used him. There are many on this board who used him and in one way or another had some sort of complication... Not all but alot more than I would expect.
I agree this is a risk and that is why I suggest researching your surgeon before choosing one and word of mouth is one - esp here... and here alot of his patients had problems. We have had ALOT of close calls (not with just Dr. Cleveland) and we have lost a friend from this board. It is a very tough decision to make and the more I know about each doctor the better.
I chose my doctor and was only his 16th patient. Sure, I could have used a doctor who had done more surgeries but the other patients he did and his reputation and lack of complications is why I chose him.
I dont know about Dr. Cleveland but Dr. Whitehead has another doctor assist him in surgery in case something does happen and to my knowledge he has not had any problems with any of his patients.
I just cant help but think of all the prayers we have done for patients of some doctors due to complications. I just want everyone to be safe and have a non eventful surgery and one that they can go home and live a normal life with their family.
I have never met him but in my opinion he has more complications with patients than I like whether he fixes them or not...
Macy, My post was not meant for you. I never doubted what has happened to you during your surgery, and I hate that you have had to go thru so much. I was very frustrated when I posted, because it seems like the same people keep talking so negatively and I thought it was time for some of the good things about this doctor be shown as well. I pray you have a speedy recovery and wish you the best!
