Has anyone had their WLS at Keesler Medical Center.. I know that they are just now starting to do surgery and it may take awhile for them to start doing WLS, but I would like to be at the top of the list when they start.. I was just wondering if anyone has had their surgery there? How was the process starting with PCM through surgery???

Hi April I had my appt with my PCM last year at the end of June. Got my referral to see General surgery and saw Dr Lo. He is gone now but Dr Jenkins is AWESOME!!!!! I had my WLS on the 20th of July last year. So it was less than 30 days. There are a couple of other girls that I know that had their surgery there. I am sure they will respond to your post. I had to have my gallbladder out in may of this years. That is a risk of the surgery. I have lost 128 pounds and would do it again in a heart beat. I feel wonderful. We have a support group that meets the last monday of every month it is this month at the Pepsi Center in Gulfport at 7:00pm. I am sure Rhonda will reply to your post she is the one who sets up all of the support groups. Talk to you soon. Welcome to the boards. Amy 268/155

I'm wondering how everything is going to work since the Katrina... I work at the Biloxi VA hospital in the operating room and use to work at Keesler when I was active duty in the OR. I know the docters for the most part.. Dr Jenkins had just become the Chief of Surgery right before I left.. Right now I know that they are doing some surgeries here at the VA but I can't seem to catch Jenkins or Dolan on the days that they are here to ask them about how the program is still going to work...

I had my gallbladder out there at the VA you all in the OR and recovery were great THANK YOU for a great experience even though it was surgery. Have you tried calling the General Surgery clinic at Keesler? They should be able to answer your questions. They have always been great to me. When you see your pcm just have a list of EVERY diet or weight loss program you have tried. They will only do this surgery as a last resort. I went in with pages of diets and things I have tried from weigh****chers to the "vinegar diet" yuck by the way!!!! We are all here for you to help the best we can. I wish you the best of luck! Amy

I had my WLS at Keesler, I am the coordinator for the WLS Support Group Meetings with Keesler. If you are interested in attending our meetings for information and support you are more than welcome. Email me and I will add you to my reminder email list. Dr Mann did my surgery but he retired last August and I see Dr Jenkins for my follow up care now. Dr Jenkins and Dolan are both great doctors. I heard that they may start doing the WLS again around October time frame, so you may want to get in with your pcm and get a referrel to see Dr Jenkins or Dolan and see what they say. I am hoping that one of them will be our speaker at the meeting on the 28th but have not received confirmation yet. I have lost 125 lbs, went from size 22 to size 2, I am now 17 months post op. Best of luck! Rhonda
