I am having surgery August 22 and I am trying to get all of my ducks in a row! First of all I can't seem to find a good tasting protein drink. I have purchased Unjury (all 3 flavors + Unflavored) and the Advantage Cho Fudge protien drink. They all Stink!! I guess I am just not mixing the Unjury with the right stuff... I don't know! Does anyone one have any suggestions on a good protein drink or ideas about Unjury to at least get me through the first two weeks? I am getting worried! Also, I have been reading labels and I looked at Applesauce sweetened with Splenda as well as apple juice. The trouble is when I look at the label it says Sugar - 8g! Does that mean 8 Grams of splenda for the sugar or is it real sugar??? I am confused! Am I crazy? Can I have those items? Help, Help, Help!!! Time is running out..... I need to stock up!

The sugar in applesauce is natural sugar from the apples----I think. Try Advant Edge at Wal-mart. Try it real cold. Its in ready to drink containers look for the bonus pks. They are usually on the grocery side of the store. Also Atkins Advantage. Also try, you may have to order this of OH store, Any Whey instantized Protein you can mix it w/ anything. It is tasteless. Also try Gen Soy protein powder in green can, usually cheaper at GNC. I mixed it w/ foods like oatmeal. My suggestion is: Don't spend a ton of money on expensive stuff. Get w some post- ops and sample some of their favs. I found some of the above at Hudson's or Dirt Cheap. DRink Carb Countdown dairy beverage. Lots of protein. For a change add a little SF Davinci Coffee syrups. I really liked the vanilla in the Carb Countdown. glenda

Ok Have you tryed putting the unjury in a blender with skim milk and a few ice cubes? thats what i had when i was a new postop! I loved the unjury chocolate and the unflavored i added to my sugar free puddings and just about anything like crystal light or sugar free kool aid and sugar free hot coco not too hot or the protein will break down, add it to yogart too. and the vanilla protein powder i always freeze me a banana and put that in the blender in place of my ice! YUMMY, now you may not be able to have it like this for awhile that nana will fill you up! the sugar free applesauce will be fine its the natural sugars that gives it the 8 gs add that unflavored unjury too it ! SUGAR FREE POPCICLES thats the only thing i would buy alot of until you know what all you are going to like postop! Its alot of trial and error in the first few mos. DAWN~

Hi Lorrie, I had ALL of them ready when I came out of surgery - and it was still a "crap-shoot" from day to day. The ones I liked before surgery, I did not like after surgery and the other way around. I would get one or two that are at least close. I would also look for a UNFLAVORED Whey Protien powder, which eventually is what I had to do. NONE of the protien drinks would stay down for me. After I started mixing the Whey Powder myself, I did much better and started at least coming CLOSE to my daily protien quota. The other thing to remember is that food/drink that is very hot or very cold can cause some of the dumping symptoms (nausea, sweating, BLAAAUUGH, etc). If you try a drink one way, and it does not work, try it a different way (room temp, cold, very cold) - remember when you are a newbie, there really aren't any rules beyond NO sugar and very small portions/blender stuff. Good luck, James.
