Shea, I went through the very same thing. I have BCBS of MS and they don't cover the surgery. So, I looked into getting another insurance policy that does cover the surgery. I was denied because I was too fat. I tried almost every insurance company out there and I was denied for the same reason over and over and over. My only other option was to medically finance it and thats what I'm doing now. I hate that I'm having to pay for it myself, but there were too many pros of doing the surgery then cons... so I went for it! If medically financing is an option for you, you can email or call Adam at CMMC and he'll let you know who the companies are that do medical financing. Capital One is one company I remember... capitalone.com. I think you can apply online. Hope this helps... Karine

What insurance company is it ? I need insurance too and I will probably need to lose weight to get it as well. Maybe we could be diet buddies and work at it together?

Hey Shea.. I think Karine's idea is a good one, if you can get financing...It is probably WAAAYYY cheaper per month than the insurance premium is gonna be. Good luck and just keep trudging along and asking questions and digging and trying, etc....DeAnna.

the insurace company is United American. They are so great and easy to work with but this one thing that is crazy. what is upsetting is that my agent didn't even say anything. i just found out friday and i wasn't in very good spirits. it's like you are so exciting in seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and then BAM! there it goes. when will the madness stop and this become easy it's so frustrating.

hey shea i can feel u on this only mine is post surgery. my husband is self employed and we went to get insurance thru golden rule which under written my united healthcare(which is the co that paid for my surgery). the agent told me that they would probably put a rider on me saying that they wouldnt cover any complications due to the surgery. which i was fine with seeing i am almost 2 years out and the chances are very slim that something like that would occur. well when we applied i was 5,2 and 140lbs great blood work and everything no cholesterol all that stuff. yet they wont cover me for 5 years!!!!! my husband is about 40lbs overweight and had high triglcerides or whatever and he was accepted!!!!!! i was steamed. they wont cover me at all! i am on the bcbs of ms comp risk pool which sucks but they do pay for most things after u meet the deductable but i dont they pay for wls. anyway i feel you u on that it sucks! crystal

Hey DeAnna.... I agree as well! After studying all the options, it was better for me to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for my surgery! We got a much better interest rate by doing this! Love, Marci

Oh Shea, I am so sorry! I don't have any advice, but I did have a similar experience... Danny and I were married for three months when I got pregnant with my first child. I had complications and was put on bed rest until the baby was born. Because I had not been at my job for a full year (I only lacked one month from being there one year) they would not give me a leave of absence. I lost my insurance when I had to leave, and my hubby tried to put me on his insurance, but the insurance would not do it. They told us that due to my height verses my weight, they decided to decline me. The insurance group told me that If my husband had added me as soon as we got married, there would not have been a problem. I told them I had my own insurance at that time and there was no sense in being added to his when mine was free! Needless to say we paid for our first born for a very long time. I tell that child all the time that he cost us a small fortune! lol Best wishes with your insurance! Marci

BTW, do you (or anyone else) know approximately what a family plan costs per month with maybe United American, or other company that does individual insurance, or insurance for self employed? DeAnna

Do insurance companies not have to worry about weight discrimination? That would tick me off. I am sorry about that. Good luck to you.
