Hy Everybody!!!! I had my lap RNY by Dr. Cleveland on 7-11-06 @ CMMC and I did very well. I passed my leak test but was very sick afterwards because I drank the Gastrograffin through a straw. I literally thought I was going to die. Needless to say, I don't care if I ever see a straw again and I did ask them never to give a bariatric patient a straw because it causes horrible repercussions. Also, I was ready to be discharged on Friday but began having left calf pain, had to have ultrasound dopplers which were negative, my O2 Sat was low so I had to have a chest Xray and naturally I had pneumonia in the right lung. How depressing!!!!!!! I was up on the 1st POD @ 6:30 a.m., and walked at least 3-4 times every day, did my incentive spirometry, but still got pneumonia. Well, I was discharged @ 1:00 on yesterday and I can say it's a blessing to be home. Sorry, I didn't make the Bash; however, maybe the next time. I am so sore in my back, chest, left side, and upper abdomen. It hurts severely when I try to drink. It's almost like a cramp and it makes me hesitant to drink because it causes so much discomfort and I know this isn't good because if I don't drink, it's back to the hospital. So, any thoughts on my discomfort/pain would be greatly apppreciated. Thanks Ree Ree

I am glad you are home. I wanted to visit you in the hospital, but Christine is broken and it will be Wed before she gets fixed. The best advice I have for you now, is just do the best you can and REMEMBER that the water intake and protien intake are GOALS!!! smoochies Arlies

So glad you're home..Been praying for you. Pneumonia must suck, and sometimes no matter what you do, surgery is just tough on your body.....Get rest, walk, and take care of yourself...."there's no place like home"...DeAnna.

Way to go! I am so glad you are finally thru the surgery and back at home! I had the pains in my left side for a few weeks. There was no sleeping in my bed, I lived in my recliner for about two weeks or so! The only thing that would somewhat ease the pain was the Loratab Liquid they prescribed for me. I had to take the full 2 tsp every 4 hrs for the first week or two because of the pain in my side and back. Please just be sure to get your fluids in! I don't want you to do like me and get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital.... ask someone to go to wal-mart and get you a timer that you can set for every 15 minutes, when the timer goes off, drink your 1 oz then reset the timer! Best wishes, Marci

Guess everyone is different, my discharge papers say 1 oz every 15 minutes. They even told me to get some of the 1 oz medicine cups to use to measure out my fluids.

Ree Ree I also lived in my recliner. It hurt to much to lay down. You will have pain every where too from the co2 that they used to lift your stomach up to do the surgery as you pass it it will move around you may have shoulder and neck pain too. Take your pain meds!!!!!!!! If the pain gets out of control it will be harder to have the meds take the edge off. Take them as directed!!!! As you drink more water it will ease up on the pain. Are you drinking really cold water???? Maybe drink room temp it may help with the cramps. Sometimes to hot or to cold will cramp your new tummy. Take it easy your body has been through the mill so to speak it will get a little better everyday. Hang in there we are all here for you and pray for your speedy recovery. Remember DRINK YOUR PROTEIN too!!! It is sooooooo important!!!! Hope this helps some. If you have a bigger scar on your left side that spot will hurt the most and for a longer period of time is what my doctor said when I had my lap RNY. Take care Amy

To all my friends................thank you so much for all your thoughts, prayers, concerns, and advice. I will take into consideration all that has been said and I will try to drink because I really don't want to become dehydrated and back in the hospital. Please don't hesitate to give me any pointers. I really appreciate all the encouragement because I never thought I'd get to be a "loser". Ree Ree
