New and Frustrated!

Hi all I am new to all this. I am so frustrated with the insurance I have Blue Cross Blue Shiels Of Michigan and they tell me they will pay for my surgery BUT they will Not give The Doctors office a letter pre approval letter because they say the surgery does not have to be pre-authorized. So I am ready to pull my hair out! lol I have had all my pre test done and the psych eval to. Just ready to scream. Anyone have this problem?

Hey and welcome. Not many members post on the weekends here. I am also fairly new at this. I have Anthem BC/BS and I have jumped thru hoops to get approved and then was denied. I am appealing thier decision. They asked for clearance from the surgeon prior to approval and that was not one of the requirements when we started. You may need to get a copy of your actual policy and see what it states. You have to fight in whatever way you can. I'm pulling for you! I have found a lot of great info on this and other state forums. If you haven' already done this try the Michigan forum and see if any of them have the same insurance. All BC/BS policies are different. Check out the Insurers page, it can reveal lot about what others have went thru with insurance companies. Wish I could be more help! Cindi

Ok.... so the surgery is covered, but the surgeon wants a letter stating that the insurance will pay? If I am correct and this is what they need, could the insurance company just call it something else? Or could the doc's office just call them and verify that it is a covered procedure? Hmmmmmmm Something sounds fishy here. Almost all of us got the run around in some way or another. Hang in there! Sounds to me like the docs office could take care of this with a phone call. The insurance was going to call and try to get it cleared up. BUT I have not heard anything back. I did get a call today about my pre-op app. its this Wednesday. So I guess Im on my way. I thought I would be seeing Dr. Cleveland but she said DR. *******s would be the doctor I will see. Anyone have him as their doctor? Sundra
