How many days...
I had mine done Lap and I was in the hospital for 4 days. It took some doing to build up my strength but I went back to work after 3 weeks. I work at a desk. I don't know if I would be able to go back if I did hard work. I did alot of walking daily to build up my strength. Like going to the mall where they have benches so if you do get tired you have somewhere to sit. It mainly depends on you and the way you heal if you have any complications during or after surgery. Stuff like that.

I had open roux-en-y. I was in the hospital 4 days (I wanted to go home on day 3, but had to wait). I am a clinic nurse and went back to work after 2 weeks. I don't have to lift or push (and I was on restriction for 6 weeks due to incision). I did work long hours, though--usually 10 hour shifts...I would always be really tired toward the end of the day. a shorter shift would've been nice. I did better back at work anyway because at home I wanted to do more than I could (i.e. tried to clean house, sweep, etc. and my belly wouldn't let me bend). It took about a month before I really felt as good as new and energy has gone up since then.
Most of the going-back-to-work depends on what type job you have. For me, I'm on my feet all day, but at least I don't have to lift (unless I'm in surgery and I didnt' return to surgery for the full 6 weeks).
