i am waiting on the nurse to call me tomorrow...(hopefully)....she turned in my file for the hospital surgery board to review last Tuesday....she said it ususally takes 3-4 days for them to get it back to her...said she would call me and that i am looking at surgery THIS week!....wow!...it's been a long 16 month journey waiting on this....and now i'm scared to death...lol....she also said that my gall bladder is bad and they will take it out at the same time...which is great...cos i sure wouldn't wanna have to go back after WLS and have gall bladder surgery...i'm gonna tell them to take out whatever is in there that doesn't have to be there....lol.....i've got several questions for her when she calls... like what will i need to buy as for as broths and protein for when i come home...and about taking my thyroid meds....even wondering if i'll be able to wear my big momma jeans home with the drainage tubes/tubes?.....please keep me in your prayers....and thanks to all of you helpful and supportive folks on here.....

THank you Dawn! i really appreciate this...i just found out this morning that i have to go back in the morning to doctor in Vicksburg and have some tests redone...mainly my thryoid ones cos i had Graves Disease and they have trouble keeping my meds regulated...the board wanted this done just to make sure....which is good, i guess....anway, Dr. Suddereth is gonna be off on Easter and the 27th and 28th of this month so he's gonna have to play catch up to get to all the surgeries that were already scheduled...so, my date is now May 1st!!...i'll be keeping in touch with everybody...thanks again!!

Hi Lori Good luck with the surgery, I hope it works out well for you and happens very very soon!! Don't worry too much about what you'll need when you get home. Get a few cans of low salt chicken or beef broth, some sugar free popsicles ( trust me!!! LOL ) and bottled water. Protein shakes weren't even allowed for me for the first four weeks, if you havent tried them before, be cautious because what you like now may be really disgusting to you after surgery. Try the sample packs and try one at a time post op. I would NOT recommend jeans. Bring yourself some comfy sweat pants for the trip home and a loose tshirt. The incisions and drains will not work well with Jeans If you have any more questions, please let us know. We're here for ya when you need us !!!! Also.. make sure you have BABYWIPES at home and bring chapstick to the hospital. I wore their designer gowns ( LOL ) and had my fuzzy slippers till I was released . It's not a beauty show, its a hospital Take care and good luck! ~Andie~

Thanks Andie for all the great info!! i had broth and popsickles on my list but didn't even think about low salt and sugar free!...and i'd forgotten about chapstick cos everybody says your lips get really dry....i've been eating the protein bars but i know i can't have them after surgery so i hope i can find a protein drink i halfway like...where do you get the samples?.....that's a good idea.....my nurse called this morning and my date is now May 1st....the board wants me to have some of my tests redone since they were done in January...we didn't realize how long this insurance thing would take....so, that's only 3 weeks; after a year and a half, i can handle 3 weeks...lol.....she said Dr. Suddereth usually only does one drainage tube; thank goodness...i will take sweatpants cos i'm like you; they'll be alot more comfortable....girl, i've got 3 MooMoos as my daughter calls them, packed and ready...i'm scared they won't have hospital gowns big enough to cover my boodie!!!!!!...rofl......i ain't taking makeu*****thing...like you said, this ain't no beauty pageant...i ain't a happy camper when i'm in pain....lol...Thanks again for all the help...ya'll are lifesavers!! LORI oh yeah...what's the babywipes for?

Lori; I brought all kinds of stuff to the hospital to wear. I was in their gown which is big and comfy. bring chap stick for sure. You will be wanting water all the time. Bring some sweats or loose comfy stuff to go home in. Definantly not jeans. Are they going to do it lap or open. I bet you don't know yet. Just go with the flow and you will be o,k. I wear glasses and I didn't even know where they were until it was time for me to go home. You really don't care what you look like. The ride hope is the worst. I was not use to being awake for that long. Bring some water home with you. I drank chicken broth and jello for a couple of weeks. So I wouldn't worry tooo much about protien. Try some slimfast optima. I love the milk chocolate. It was pretty nasty before surgery. It is great now. On a web sight you can buy sample packages of protien powders that you mix with water. They are pretty good. and have lots of protien. Good luck and you will be on the losing side soon. You are in my prayers. Steph

Hi Steph and thanks for the wonderful info!! it is great having folks who've already been there to help and not just being in the dark about everything...that's why i love this site...well, that and the wonderful folks...i've got chapstick on my list and thanks to Andie, some wet wipes for home...i'll put the slim fast and water on there too...i stay thirsty all the time now due to the diet pills he has me on....he wanted me to lose some weight so that i'd be more likely to be able to have it lap...he doesn't think there will be a problem with that since i've lost 44 pounds ..i pray that they can do it lap........also taking my MooMoos which are big and comfy and very colorful..lol...and a robe so when i walk the halls, everything will be covered...lol....i dread the ride home cos it's about a 2 hour drive from Vicksburg to me....and we have a big 4 wheel drive truck so i'm taking a step stool to get in and out..lol.....thanks again for the info.....and especially the prayers.....i'll be keeping in touch.... LORI
