SOS ...WHERE do I start???

Hello everyone! I have already embarassed myself by posting a request on the lap band message board ... hopefully I will do better at this site... I am a total NEWbie at this lap band 'seeking info' procedure. I live in the MIDDLE of Mississippi and I am certain there are at least one or two hospitals in my region that do lap band surgery. Question is: Which one would you suggest I check into?? Also ... I have insurance with Tricare ... is there anyone out there who have had experience, etc., with this insurer re: wls? Hey Wanda, welcome to the board. I dont know much about Drs. or hospitals in your area, just wanted to say HI! I have Tricare Prime, i live on the coast so i had to used keesler for my surgery i wanted the Lap band also , at first, but Tricare would only cover RNY at the time , not sure about now. I know that lap band is done at UMC.Dr. Vicks is the one that does it. The number is 601-815-1294. Call your insurance company,they will tell you if it is covered.Good luck, Glenda

Hey Wanda from Collins!!!! Yeppers, UMC does take tricare! My hubby is retired military and I had my surgery at Keesler, tho I now live in Brandon and am from Decatur, and have been thru Collins many, many times on the way to the Navy Base! Welcome aboard!!!! Last I knew, Tricare did not cover lap band, but I think they were gonna change that.....They do cover RNY, tho. Good luck and come back often! smoochies Arlies

Hi Wanda, This site is a great place to learn about WLS in general. Everyone is really nice and supportive. I don't have any experience with your insurance carrier. I plan on having lap band surgery on the 18th of this month at River Oaks in Jackson, MS. Dr. David Carroll is my surgeon. Good luck on your weight loss journey. Welcome aboard. Rosemary

I used Dr Carroll for my RNY. he's great, eh? I'm down 40 pounds in 6 weeks.
