Disappointed
Jeannie told me to get a letter from my PCP stating he has advised me on weightloss for 12 months yada yada yada. I called him Monday morning and explained in detail what I needed and he was like "Oh, yeah I know exactly what they want" Well today he sends me the letter and it isn't at all what I ask for. He sent me a letter saying I was healthy enough to have the surgery. (which we need too but....) Anyway, I'm frustrated and dissapointed and not sure how to get things done. I called Jeannie and she said she would fax them a guideline. It just seems like it slows things down. I know I'm on God's timing but it still disappoints me.

Jereni, Are you using an insurance company to pay for your WLS? If you are then try calling your ins. co. and tell them that you need the surgery and what documentation do they want from your health care provider in order to get approval. They should send you a list of what they want. They will probably want diagnosis such as hypertension, hyperglycemia, depression, arthritis or several other things. It took me nearly 18 months to do all the things they wanted and to get all the paperwork in order for them. Be patient. It is well worth it. Hope this helps. Carol
Let me tell you what I did... I wrote the letter myself and included everything that my insurance company wanted and took it to my doctor - he signed it.
Although I never was on any supervised diet - his notes indicated back for 10 years that I was obese and that we had talked about weight loss and ways to do it. If you have been seeing your PCP for many years and you can trust him maybe you could just write the letter.
