I don't have a problem with beef, started eating steak when I was about 6 months out, but only if it is fork tender and I chew and chew it. You definately cannot swallow large chunks and I noticed before that I did not chew stuff properly, just gulped and ran. Chicken is still tough for me, especially the white breast part, too dry and too dense! At first when you have surgery, you will get most protein from shakes, then move to regular food gradually. I found that ground beef either in soup or in cream sauce (SOS if you have been in the military) works well, also I found that raw Salmon (shashimi) goes down well and minced boiled shrimp also. Crab meat in sauce is good too. Different people have different problems with stuff agreeing. Lots of the people on the board can eat refried beans and say that they are great, I thought I was gonna die when I ate them, never again LOL! My motto is take a little bite, you will know if it will agree or not. If not, then go to something else...... You need to cut tiny little bites of anything, then chew, chew, chew. My biggest comfort food after surgery was (believe it or not) Watermelon!!! Cheryl

I can eat beef now but had a very hard time with it early out. Depends on the type of beef too. Steaks do a number on me if they are too tough and I dont chew them up well enough. Ground beef is okay as long as all the grease is drained - The grease does not do well on my tummy. Grits and Rice hurt me more than beef though so I would be careful when you try those foods for the first time and I do not suggest drinking afterwards.
